Of those barrels, I wouldnt pick a combat grade or a ballistic advantage. With that said, most of those remaining barrels can out shoot the vast majority of shooters. ARs take some skill to shoot accurately. Also, quality of ammo and the rest of the system are going to matter. I shoot a white oak out to 800 on steel for gas gun competitions with a 10x on top. The barrel gets it done. I think it really depends on the shooter. If you took all those barrels and put them in a machine with zero movement and zero human error, my guess is the white oak/criterion/solgw spr are best of that group. If you’re asking me to pick a perfect barrel…. I’m having a reputable smith chamber me a bartlein barrel. Hands down. |

In the last couple of years, I have been able to buy new Proof Research, Shilen, Douglas, Lilja, and Krieger barrels on the EE here and on other sites for under $500 to my door. While I don't have any in the safe at the moment, I have always had good luck with Criterion and WOA barrels as well. I don't have any experience with Craddock Precision but I have heard nothing but good things about their barrels and their RTR line should be within your budget. |

This guy has the most consistent and empirical testing format to rate accuracy of given barrel. Last I checked, the SOLGW SPR outshot everything on your list…by far. He even retested a different SOLGW SPR barrel to ensure not a fluke. It’s the only barrel on your pistol that is a 3R (vs 5 or 6), as a result, slightly higher velocity and apparently significantly more accurate. https://m.youtube.com/@PrestonJMoore/videos |

I have a 20" chrome lined Criterion and so far it's kinda meh. I need to play around with it some more. I got it because it was the only chrome lined Wylde chamber available which would have been great, if it performed well. I have a WOA SDM 16" barrel that is ok. Also a 16" SPR barrel that is kind of meh. I think the 20" Service RIfle barrels are pretty good. They are substantially heavier profile and seem to produce good precision. A local guy had an entire upper he got that he used to shoot a 200-20X in a local Mid-Range prone match with handloads. Keeping them all in the X ring is pretty good and requires a sub moa rifle to begin with. I don't have any experience with them since they have been sold and moved to Utah. We have had good results with 20" Bison Armory service rifle barrels, but they are not strictly Wylde chambers. Their chambers are throated about .020 longer. They are reasonably priced and it's what I recommend to people that are looking for a good barrel. We have probably used half a dozen or more barrels over the last couple of years. All barrels are a story unto themselves, trying to rely on an AI table of performance is not really gonna tell you much. |

Nobody shoots chrome lined barrels in the winner's circle at Camp Perry. With that being said, nobody shoots ball ammo in the winner's circle either. Match grade ammo, 52 to 77 grains, makes all the difference in the world. No barrel, no matter how well made or expensive, can make up for M193/M855 deficiencies. WOA's standard grade SPR/CMP barrels are very good and a great value for what they cost. If you want better grade blanks, they offer that too. I own a Colt H-Bar 16" factory barreled carbine that regularly shoots ten rounds inside 1" at 100 using 69 grain SMK's, it's an anomaly. My WOA match grade barrels do it out-of-the gate. Buying a better barrel increases the probability of great groups on target. There are no guarantees. |

I'm not sure what you mean by production versus custom. With match grade barrels, you have a barrel blank manufacturer and a blank finisher. Sometimes that's different companies, sometimes it's the same company, and other times the seller is neither. Your AI list has all three. It's pretty standard to have to wait a while for a true match grade barrel. You also might have to pay a bit more than $500. Krieger and Bartlein are top of the heap for blanks. Cut rifling beats other methods for accuracy purposes. White Oak Armament and Ranier Ultramatch have well-established, good reputations for accuracy. The AI bot is wrong about some stuff. No AR barrel can reasonably be expected to deliver consistent .5 moa groups. LaRue does not have proprietary steel. They just call it a goofy name, and won't say what it is. Preston Moore's videos are neat, but the lack of consistency in ammo limits the conclusions that can be drawn from them. He'll also have some other head-scratchers in there from time to time, like attributing velocity differences to barrels instead of a 35 degree temperature difference from one day to another. I'm not sure he has a great understanding of how all the variables that go into shooting small groups work together. I probably also ought to add that John Holliger recently sold White Oak Armament to a couple who is moving or has moved the operation to (I think) Nevada. Holliger was uniquely dedicated to delivering the most accuracy for the dollar. We'll have to see how well the new owners carry on his impressive legacy. |

I have one in 18”… by far the most accurate barrel i own. Sub Moa with factory 55 grain and one hole groups with hand loads. Know 2 other guys who have them with similar results. As others have said there’s lots of factors and a little luck in getting a majic barrel, but I think rock river figured it out with this one. https://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=280 |

My 18” is threaded… can’t remember if was an option or just came that way. although if your looking for true accuracy a target crown might not be a bad thing. |

My current 3 gun rifle is built around one of the ba hansens. Very accurate but is a little more ammo sensitive than the rock island. Im glad I stocked up on wolf gold, it shoots it very well. Federal and fiochi 55 grain not so much. |

Had to call and they had to do a little rooting around in the warehouse but was able to pick up a 1:7.7 / 16.5” / Mid Length / barrel that they had in stock. Shipped price was under $600 which for a Kreiger barrel is a no brainer. Thanks for point me in the right direction. |

A Krieger barrel is a VERY, VERY well respected brand / manufacturer. |

I broke in the first one and proceeded to stack my 140gr "basic" handload. Went back and bought another the same week. I think I paid $625 for them from Fulton Armory. |

It theory, it should have more velocity, however, I've read about some 18" barrels actually having LESS velocity than some 16" barrels, so there is that possibility. Depends on the barrel. Inch for inch Criterion barrels average a little faster than their counterparts, partly due to the 1/8 twist (less twist, less friction) combined with .223 wylde. |

well as of this time the Larue stealth 18" at PA is on sale for $282 so that would be pretty close to what i would go. https://www.primaryarms.com/larue-tactical-stealth-556-ar15-barrel-18in |

My recommendation, as I just finished doing exactly what you’re doing now, is call Kreiger on Monday morning. Have them double check they have one of their 16.5” / 1:7.7 / mid-length gas / .750 barrels in stock. If they do, spend the extra $90 (which includes shipping) and buy it! If your ultimate goal is accuracy, Kreiger and Bartlein are arguably your best answers and then it comes down to price and availability which as you are finding out…. Can be a challenge. When I called and confirmed barrel specs and availability yesterday, I couldn’t get the CC out fast enough. |

Lilja .223/5.56 Wylde chamber. Nominally 17". Recce profile. Benchrest grade accuracy. Hand lapped. I have a number of rifles with match/competition barrels. None exceeds this with my custom handloads. Lilja makes other profiles and lengths, From rest, this barrel is capable of repeated sub-1/2 MOA with proper load development from 52gr to 77gr. match bullets (mostly Berger) in Lapua Matcha cases. While developed for NWSC SEALs as the famous "Recce", its real forte is precision. |

Nice shooting. A high-quality barrel can make all the difference. Certainly makes chasing tight groups a lot less frustrating. Great barrel and good trigger are the 2 things I recommend for folks looking for accuracy. |
