Ok, As a newbie. Can someone explain the diffrence between the green follower and the black follwer, and the others. Do they really make a big diffrence???? Which is best??? |
| Original alloy followers in 20 rounders are often regarded as the best "stock" followers. Of course they are made for 20 round mags though. Plastic black followers employed in 30 round mags after we stopped using 20s have no anti-tilt piece to them, but should still function fine. Plastic green followers are the latest USGI follower and have an anti-tilt "leg" on them. NOTE: Black followers in English mags are the same as USGI anti-tilt green followers, except they are black. Then there are aftermarket followers, such as the brown magpul ones. They don't tilt at all. You will also see neon orange followers out there, but these are just orange versions of the green anti-tilt follower. My advice: If you want the highest reliability, get magpul ones (but it will cost you compared to USGI greens) but for most anybody, USGI greens are going to work just fine. It's what I have. Anybody want to add? I probably missed something. |

Simple: 30 rd mag, black plastic=BAD, green=GOOD. 20 rd mag, black plastic=BAD,alloy=GOOD. So if you have any mags with black plastic followers, you must IMMEDIATELY replace them and burn them so they cause no future harm. YOU MUST DO THIS SOON. In the name of humanity, PLEASE.... If you act too slowly you are DOOMED!!

Forget the Green, Black and Alloy (excluding HK mags) The new enhanced follower from Magpul is where it's at. It is highly likely you'll see these as GI in all Military mag soon. If you laugh, wait and see. There are tons of guys on this site who know what I speak of.. Edit: Could someone post close up pics of green, black and Magpul followers to show why the Magpul followers work the way they do? I know someone will ask this so just to clarify, I have always put 28 rounds in my 30's. With the Magpul followers I can still fit 30 no prob, but 28 is the best funtioning. I've heard people say the loose a round (29) off of a mag with the followers and ranger plates, not my experience. I can still fit 30 in all 25 of my mags, but I choose 28. |

Thanks Eric! Seeing all the types side by side really puts it into perspective. Hope the pics clear up Q's for Vatopa and others. The main reason the magpul does not tilt is because of the elongated legs and the notches in the side which ride in the verticle "tracks" on the mag. Thanks again Eric! |
