I searched for this but came up empty......
Running an eotech 512 with a sight mark 7x magnifier. When I zero, do I zero just the eotech and then flip the magnifier into place, or do I zero with the magnifier in place? Also, if just the eotech is zeroed and the magnifier is flipped into place, by adjusting the magnifier to have the reticle in the center, will that screw up POI ? The eotech is on a larue qd mount and the sight mark is in a sun optics "tall" flip to side mount, if it matters. Thank for the help........ |

Quoted: No, sight in with your magnifier in place. Using the horizontal and vertical adjustments only centers the reticule in the magnifier window and does not affect POI. Does the magnifier have independent adjustments? If so, I would sight in the eo, then center the reticle on the magnifier. |
|
Quoted: The magnifier's adjustments are only used to center the reticule in the magnifier view and have no effect on zero. You want to zero with the magnifier in place to achieve a more precise zero vs unmagnified. I would have to disagree. I would still zero the eotech, then center the magnifier. Only because the magnifier will also magnify the reticle, thus making it not as precise as one would perceive. |

| Not sure what you're trying to say that under magnification, it's going to get less precise. The reason why you want to zero with magnification is to prevent a perception that your zero changed under magnification, when in fact, you were less precise when you zeroed without magnification. This is even mentioned in the EOTech magnifier manual. |

Quoted: No, 1MOA = 1MOA with or without magnification. The reticule is magnified but so is the background, keeping the same ratio. Perhaps, I doubt it, original question was on a sightmark. ETA:After zeroing or re-zeroing the sight, it may be necessary to reposition the reticle image into the center of the magnifier window. This is aesthetic in nature and has no affect on the sight’s zero. Turn the horizontal and vertical adjustments on the top or side of the magnifier with the adjustment tool provided or a flat head screwdriver to reposition reticle to the desired position. Why rezero? Why reposition? What does the prefix RE- mean. ETA: This is from EOTECH website not sightmark. |

Look at the paragraph above for your answer:
Once the magnifier is installed properly behind the HWS, it may be necessary to re-zero the sight. This may be due to the shooter’s ability to see the target and Point of Impact (POI) more accurately than without the magnifier. Re-zeroing the sight will prevent a perceived shift in POI when going from no magnification to magnification. And yes, your dot stays the same size, relative to your target. How can you magnify only your reticule without magnifying the target as well? |
| Don't make this too complicated. Like the dude says above, zero without the magnifier to get it very close, flip the magnifier in to check where the reticule resides in the magnifier, adjust to center and then re-zero with the magnifier to confirm. You're done. |

EOTechs are parallax free.
The only effect repositioning the magnifier will have is to move the EOTech reticle in the magnifier view. Zero the EOTech with or without using the magnifier, your preference, then center the EOTech reticle in the magnifier using the magnifier's adjustment. Joe |
