hi i just bought my first ar-15 two weeks ago and i took it out for the first time today and what is happening is it will not extract the shells. the bolt opens part way but not enough to cycle the action. it will extract the shells only when manually pull the bolt back. the gun is a rock river arms lar-15 10.5 inch barrel with A4 Flat Top Upper. what if i was move the gas block and tube back ? thanks |
If you have moved the gas block around, you may have blocked the gas block to the gas port passages. If this is the case, you will need to either return the gas block to the factory placement (should be able to see where the old set screws bite into the barrel, or will need to pull the block forward enough to see the barrel port to mark the barrel shoulder to make a reference mark, and then slip the block back using the center of the gas tube against the reference mark. Also, since you haven’t brought it up yet, an idea of what ammo you are using may help us solve the problem as well. Some ammo out there will have problems in the new rifle if the upper is not cleaned and lubed correctly. |

Dano is correct yet again..................you MUST use hotter ammo in those shorties (an SBR for your first AR, cool) due to the short duration time for the powder to build pressure. Stick with the Mil-Spec ammos (xm193 or m855) for awhile till it breaks in good then try something cheaper. |
