I'm looking to purchase a NIB M4gery. I've done some research, but would like to get input from all the knowledgeable users of this extraordinary site on which manufacturers have reputable quality and reasonable pricing. I'm looking into a DPMS AP4 Panther Carbine (can't really find any negative reviews so far). Give me your input on this rifle or whatever you recommend. Thanks in advance!!! -Gunner "If you can read and write, thank a teacher. If you can read and write in English, thank the U.S. Armed Forces." |
| Thanks for the timely responses. I've looked into DPMS, Bushmaster, Rock River Arms and Olympic Arms. They all seem to be priced in the same range, but DPMS is a little lower (I'm a college student on a limited budget). Are there any specific reasons why CMT/Stag is recommended? |
|
I can't speak for other brands, but my bushmaster is the finest weapon I have had the pleasure to own. From what I hear you can't go wrong with any of the major brands. My buddy has a stag arms and he loves it. Whatever you get - start saving up for buckets of ammo! |
| i wouldnt touch anything except RRA or Bushmaster, simply the best of the best as far as fit finish and reliability. Colt is in the top three as well except for the their fit is sloppy and the finish is just behind RRA and Bushmaster. Most people will say colt is number one but obviously they dont care about a tight fit up and lower. |

I think I've narrowed it down to RRA or DPMS. For the budget I'm on and the features I'm looking for, these two seem to fit the bill. At this point, the decision will be made more on quality, reliability and how well the manufacturer stands behind their product. Any further advice from this point? Thanks, -Gunner "If you can read and write, thank a teacher. If you can read and write in English, thank the U.S. Armed Forces." |
Yes. 1. You can get the CMT/ Stag for under $750 including shipping. 2. That includes a flattop with ARMS BUIS. 3. CMT/ Stag is going to be at least as good in the quality and reliability department. RRA rough cuts the feedramps by hand, and DMPS isn't the same quality level IMHO. |
Thanks, Stickman. The only reason I hadn't included Stag was because their website shows the MSRP as being a little higher than the others. I'll be going out this weekend to get info from the local gun stores to check *official* pricing and availability. -Gunner "If you can read and write, thank a teacher. If you are trying to get the most while spending the least, you will probably end up coming back to one of the dealers from this board. There is less overhead, so costs are typically lower. Good luck in your search, you may be able to find a good deal on something, just make sure you know what you are getting. |

Use the vendors on this site. They will provide you with a great product and exceptional service. Just transfer a complete Stag lower (or build one) and buy a Stag upper. There are a lot of good dealers found in the Equipment Exchange. Edited to add.....Yeah, what Stickman said. He beat me to the punch! |
Easy choice then-RRA. I personally think RRA is in a totally different league than DPMS. People are typically very pleased with their RRA products, and you hear many more complaints from DPMS owners. RRA has the best fit and finish around, they're reliable, and their rifles come with extra goodies-hogue grip, star selector, 2 stage trigger. Only downsides are that RRA rifles have rough cut M4 feedramps (as stickman said), and they use 4140 barrel steel instead of 4150. IMO, neither of these things should matter much to the average shooter. Just get the RRA. Good Luck.... ETA: Oh, I agree with Stickman about CMT/Stag: they make a very good product, too. Stag or RRA would both serve you better than DPMS. |
