I recently bought a Model1 Kit and I absolutely love it. I have put quite a few rounds through my rifle, but the brief giddy period has passed and I would actually like to hit my target. I have a flattop receiver and I bought a removable CH to give me a basic iron sight setup. The PROBLEM is that I can't seem to crank the rear sight down enough to zero at 50 yards. Its completely bottomed out and my groups are way high. I am getting better at compensating, but its a reall pain in the ___.

Is there something I am missing? Can I raise my front sight?

I plan to add an aimpoint or somehting when I can scrape together some cash, but until then, I need to figure this out.

Thanks for the help.

Remember that when adjusting the FRONT sight, the bullet will strike OPPOSITE to the direction the sight is moved, and vice-versa for the rear sight.

Can you raise it?

You mean you haven't been?  The rear sight is ONLY raised/lowered to adjust for range.  The front sight is adjusted to ZERO the rifle.

First Read this (you should have a copy already): M16 Operators Manual (the -10)
It will cover the basics on adjusting your sights for zeroing (just don't follow their zeroing instructions).

Now read this: Improved Battle Sight Zero

Come back if you have any questions.

To help with adjusting sights, remember FORS (pronounced "force)

Front
Oppostite
Rear
Same

This has saved me lots of head scratching at the range lol.

Or just look at the lettering on the front sight that has an arrow and "up" stamped on it.  Up as in moving the points of impact up (which will move the front sight post down).
