I know that this has been covered before but the previous thread didn't give to much of a definitive answer. I was wondering what kind of accuracy can be expected out of this ammo. The rifle is a Remington 709 SPS Tactical AAC SD. Is 1 MOA at 500 asking too much out of this ammo, and is it a decent deal at $1.40/round?

I loaded up some M118LR clones for my 700 SPS Tac AAC-SD, and my best 5 shot group at 100 yards was 0.69" (0.66MOA). Out of five, five shot groups I averaged 1.18 MOA IIRC, however that's due to me not the rifle.

I did not take it out to 500 yards yet, however I do plan to once I load up some more.  $1.40/round sounds really expensive to me though.

If you are talking about actual 118LR it shoots outstanding in my LTR at 100 yards for me it's sub MOA for me I need to test it at longer ranges, but I expect good results by the past performance.

What should I expect to pay for this ammo?

No more than a buck a round I'd think. You can get FGMM for about that

308 load

42.8 of IMR 4064 with 168gr
41.75 of IMR 4064 with 175gr
Fed 210M
Fed GM Match Brass

This handload will duplicate the M118lLR loads

The result, when it was standardized as the MK316 Mod 0 cartridge, was a Federal modified case (Drawing number 8347636), Federal match primer, Sierra 175 grain Matchking and 41.75 grains of IMR 4064 powder. According to the published sources this load will produce a muzzle velocity of 2640 fps out of a 24 inch barrel. The load as produced by Federal is claimed to produce under 1 MOA out to 1000 yards from an appropriate rifle. With the IMR powder the shift in velocity is only 20 fps from 0 to 100 Deg C, with the Standard deviation in velocity over 40 rounds being 15 fps or less. In contrast the M118LR loaded with RE-15 powder will see a 50 fps rise in velocity for a 50 deg rise in temperature.

M118LR is some of the most fantastically accurate factory ammo I've ever seen.

The .308 barrel for my Mega shoots it under .5 MOA.

I doubt you'll find this ammo any cheaper than here:
CMP Estore
You've got some requirements to meet before you can order, but they aren't too difficult to meet. A few forms to fill out, get notarized and mail.
You will need to be a member of an affiliated club or just join the GCA (Garand Collectors Assoc.) for $25 per year. The membership comes with a quarterly magazine that's worth the entry fee in itself. They publish a great rag with great info.
Only problem is you've got to buy 240rd lots. You do get a new ammo can with it. Shipping is fixed at $14.95 per can via FedEx.

I hit 10 out of 10 shots at 1,100 yards with my 700 on a 16x16" steel plate with M118LR.
