I have been using a Wheeler Engineering vice block set http://www.midwayusa.com/product/210021/wheeler-engineering-delta-series-upper-receiver-vise-block-clamp-ar-15?cm_vc=ProductFinding
I particularly like the built in gas tube guide on the action insert that allows you to insure that the barrel nut is aligned properly. The action insert fits fine with all of my A2 and A3 uppers and goes all the way to the front of the action. However I have noticed on retro A1 upper receiver's it stops about 1 inch from the front of the action. It appears that the charge handle channel is too narrow shallow. Has anyone relieved the upper rib on the insert to allow it to move fully foreword in an A1 action? I don't think there is any problem with the actions; any BCG I use fits fine with no binding. It lust appears that the insert was engineered for modern actions which are slightly wider taller/deeper in the upper channel. I don't want to go grinding on the insert just to find out that it no longer works properly in modern actions. t |

Mine broke on the 3rd or 4th time I used it.
It was really a snug fit but I could get to go all the way in. It broke when I was trying to pull it out of the receiver. I really liked using it. It made the alignment easier and quicker. Yes, I was doing A1 uppers. The block is doing well so far. I figured for $20 it is still a good deal. It does say it is for the A2 and A3's. It doesn't say it is for the A1's. I didn't know there is a difference in size between the A1 and the A2/A3's. Ron |
