| I have shot the vortex before on several barrel lengths and was real impressed even at night? I just wondered what the phantom was like? |
| Vortex is slightly better at killing the flash. Phantom is good, but the Vortex is better. I am not so sure the Phantom is stronger than the Vortex anymore... I had an old Vortex and the prongs mushroomed out. They sent me the new style and the thing looks like it is a beast. Very thick, very sturdy. My older style Phantom was dropped and one of the teeth type things bent too. I was able to fix it, but I was suprised at how easily it bent. I have and like both, but the new Vortex is clearly my favorite. |

Quoted: A closed cage should be stronger, also, the Phantom is (theoretically) less likely to snag on brush. not a problem in the city, but a problem in the woods. I agree completely. The new Vortex is a vast improvement over the old, which were junk IMO. Still, I'd take a Phantom over a Vortex, new or old, in a heartbeat. I don't like the snag potential, and carrying my AR in less than manicured conditions is a reality. For most people, either a new Vortex or a Phantom is simply a matter of taste. |
| The Vortex is by far the best flash suppressor if your goal is to kill all of the flash. The reason it is open at the end is because the prongs act like tuning forks to break up the gas, thereby eliminating all of the flash. They actually vibrate to break up the flash signature. The Phantom cannot do this as well. As far as catching on objects, the Vortex will hang up more than the Phantom. That has not been a problem for me. Just my .02 |
