| Is there a torque spec for a rifle buffer tube? If so, is there different spec for 7075 vs 6061? |

My uncle builds a lot of AR's. I built one with him and he sat and held the receiver with the wrench on the castle nut and his hand up against the wrench so it wouldn't go anywhere, he then instructed me to hit the wrench with a hammer until the castle nut wouldn't move any further. it's been pretty solid. |

Rifle receiver extension = 35-39 Ft-Lbs carbine receiver extension/castle nut = 38-42 Ft-Lbs Note: You can't reach these torque values holding the lower receiver between your knees. And be sure to use grease on the threads.  I just sent 2 of my Snap-On torque wrenches off to Snap-On for repair/recalibration and recertification and it cost $256.15 for that service. The wrenches never even get much use, but I just wanted to play it safe.  I only go to the minimum 35 Ft-Lbs on the rifle receiver extensions and 38 Ft-Lbs on the carbine castle nuts. |
| This is what my setup looked like other than I was using a magazine well block in the clamp. I got to say I was not very impressed with either of my multifunction wrenches for this particular operation. A little to lose fitting so it marred the corner of the end of the tube. Anybody have any suggestions on a multifunction tool that fits rifle receiver extensions better? |

Just have to be super carful and be sure to apply a lot of pressure to keep the tool from slipping out of the notches on the castle nut. Also, it has a very nice tight fit on rifle receiver extensions, but just gong to the torque spec required will mar the anodized finish on the wrench flats a bit... Still the best stock tool there is. And I advise against using a mag well vise block to torque receiver extensions. Those are more suited as a third hand for installing triggers, mag catches, safety selectors, pistol grips and takedown/pivot pins. Clamp the lower between a set of these for RE work. > Link.
