By the time I got my videos and pictures uploaded last night it was too dark to spray them with deet.
So I'll do it today and let them sit overnight and see if anything changes. Here is the Deet, its 98.11% Deet. 
Warning says keep away from some plastics. 
Here are the mags. 
I'll put a good coat of spray on these, we have big mosquitoes up here... 
I'm only spraying one side to see if there is a noticeable difference in the mags tomorrow. 
Evenly coated, sitting up on the grill again. 
The Troy mag is bubbling, not sure whats going on there. 
TangoDown, nothing. 
Pmag, nothing. 
Lancer, nothing. 
Tapco, nothing. 
I'll check back every hour and see if anything cool happened. |

So I did a little "research" and looked in the store for what paint stripper ruined my older lancer mag...
OP if you want to melt them, this should do the trick...

I'm trying to come up with a rank for the magazines in this test. So far, I would have to say the Lancer magazine is undisputedly number 1.
I think I would say, based on this thread: 1. Lancer 2. Either Troy or the TangoDown ARC mag. Troy popped a baseplate, but the ARC broke in half. But they would at least hold their ammunition. 3. See above. 4. Magpul/Tapco. Based on numbers, I figure it would go Magpul, then Tapco. 5. The other of number 4. 6. The GI aluminum mags. Can't wait to see what else is in store. OP, do you think the ARC mag could be put back together and still function if you repeated the vertical drop test? |

I watched them most the night and nothing changed.
We did get a little rain but it didn't look to do much to the mags. 
The first thing I noticed when I went to flip them over was the Troy. 
Its base is now very soft plastic. 
Flipped over it appears the bodies are OK. Only the Troy is showing changes on its base. 
I'll rinse them off with water and see if anything else happened. |

Thank you for doing this thread. As well, you are a crazy mofo!  When I came upon this thread, and got to the part where your Bushmaster was hanging by a strap, that you intended to drop repeatedly, I laughed out loud and said "This guy is a crazy ass motherfucker!"  And I mean that in the best way possible!
As well, if you IM or email me your name & shipping info, I will pay to have one magazine (of any type) shipped to you if you use it in the next round of tests? I am hoping 5-6 other arfcommers step up to the plate with me to support WI57 for his next round of tests so we can at least cover his mag costs? Anyone with me? I washed them off with water and then set them out to dry.
The one one that appears to have been attacked by the Deet is the Troy mag. The Troy magazine body appears to by unchanged. 
But the base is beginning to dissolve. 
So much so that its probably a 1-piece base now, as the tab has fuzed to the outside. 
The TangoDown appears unchanged. 
The follower is showing the crack a little more. 
The Pmag appears unchanged. 
The Pmag crack is still leaking deet/water. 
The Lancer's body appears unchanged, the feed lips are beginning to rust again. 
Nothing changed with the Lancers follower. 
The Tapco mag appears unchanged. 
The crack in the back hasn't changed.

Finally got out to the range to test fire these.
 But after talking to the range workers it was OK for me to shoot, but I had to use the pistol side.
The mags, the two GI mags are junk, they can't keep their base plates on without me bending the tabs, so I wont be shooting them. 
Whats the scrap price of aluminum these days...? 
All loaded up. 
My poor IMI stash... but its been worth every trigger pull.
The Troy test fire. Base plate is dissolving from the Deet, functioned fine 
The TangoDown test fire. Was able to be reassembled and functioned fine.
Pmag test fire. Pmag will not hold rounds by itself, but continues to feed if in a lower.
The Lancer test fire. Lancers feed lips are bent outward now, but still feeds.
The Tapco test fire. Tapco mag no longer will hold rounds since the back is cracked, but functions in a lower.
(Don't lie, who was waiting for that single round on the hand guard to cook off... )
And the final tests will be conducted tomorrow with the results posted Sunday.

I posted a kaboom thread that included a blown pmag. They asked for me to send it in and I'm awaiting a FREE replacement.
Moral of the story- if you are tough enough on mags to reach the end of its life, the company standing behind it is an important factor as well! At the end of the test, contact the manufactures as John Doe and see which ones are willing to deal with you. |

Brass went about a foot up, and 4' forward. Problem is this M82 didn't have "home-boy" sights so dumping the bullet into the alfalfa at 20 yards was kinda difficult. |
