| Seems like I saw a thread on these a little whille back but I serached and coul dnot find it. Brownells has these at a great price with the discount but they are getting mixed reviews. You guys that have used them what are your thoughts. Are they GTG or not. I understand that the ones from Brownells are the Mk1 and they have an "improved" Mk2 out. Like I said the price is great on these but I do not want to purchase and pay shipping if they are jubnk What do you are think of them or if you have a link to the previous thread pleas einclude as well. I appreciate any help. |

I attended a Pat Rogers course in SC and ran the Tango Down ARCmags through the majority of the class, shot close to 1500 rds and had zero FTF or any mag issues with these mags. I used them in both my SCAR as well as my M4.
I have also ran them in a two day LAV course with zero failures in my SCAR. Last year at my summer AT I used these in my issued M4, we fired blank, live ball and the CCMCK rounds... All with zero failures... Three of them are the original ones with the rubber seal, that sealed against the Mag Well to keep dust out. I took a dremel to this and ground down the lip so they fit in mag pouches For me they are my go to mags followed by the new Lancer AWM magazines Quoted:

I can't imagine they will exchange that many Mk1s for new Mk2s. When the original ARC magazines came out, they were supposed to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Now not so much. |

They're $5 mags. It's not as if you're out much. TD stated that they will replace any defective mags with gen2 mags.
Test each mag. If it fails or hints at failing, document it and contact them. I think it's pretty silly to expect to buy $5 close out mags and then expect a company to replace ALL of them because a couple failed. |

HOWEVER, it is a product with a brand name and a reputation. If the Mk1 version has significant problems, the remaining stock should have been recalled/destroyed; rather they are being somewhat discreetly unloaded at a significant discount. The discounted Mk1 version ARC magazines are going to be all over the place and every time somebody runs them in a carbine class or makes a youtube video about their gear choices TangoDown will either get a +1 or a -1 and few will pay attention to what version or generation of the magazines was the subject of the review. If everything that was advertised about the Mk1 versions in 2008 was true, (best mag ever designed and mfg for the AR-15/M-16 platform) was true, there should be no problem. Buy up the closeout Mk1 ARC magazines from Brownells and profit like like a rock star. On the other hand, if the Mk1 version ARC magazine has an inherent problem, we should all avoid them at any cost because life is too short to fool around with crap magazines. |

I'm in the same boat as you. I've read that most people have had zero issues but some have. I know that Pat Rogers recommends them so that makes it good enough for me to try. I bought 30. I've used 5 in a SCAR, 10.5 SBR, 12 SBR, 18" DD with no problems so far. Granted, it's only been a couple hundred rounds but so far so good.
When issues pop up, I'll set them aside and contact TD. I've just been reading a bunch of hand wringing posts for a couple weeks now by people that haven't even used the mags they bought and it gets annoying. I think part of it is my suspicion that some people will be trying to get something for nothing by buying a bunch of mags and then trying to upgrade their entire lot. You are right about life being too short for crap mags. I always wonder about peoples love for CProducts.... |
| I bought 10 to try. I used some and had no problems with feeding or the bolt locking back. Not bad for 5 bucks with the discount. I'll run the mags some more to see if there are gonna be issues. Let me know if any you got problems. Tangodown will probably change them out no prob. |

I have several ARC mags... most are likely the Mk 1 models (had them a while), and both in 20 and 30 round sizes.
I've never had one issue with them. Granted, I've not had issues with any magazines, but the ARC mags drop free from all my lowers (something I can't say for Pmags). They're the mags I prefer, even if I do think they're uglier than most other mags.

In my opinion, TangoDown is taking a calculated risk in releasing the glut of excess Mk1 magazines at a clearance price through major retailers. They have promised to stand behind products that bear their brand name and replace any returned Mk1 magazines that don't perform as they should. However, they certainly could not afford to replace every Mk1 magazine sold for $5 with a brand new Mk2 version if the purchaser returned it to them. I, as many others, have purchased 20+ of the Mk1 versions at the closeout price. It will take me awhile to get through the process of testing all of them and setting aside any that have problems. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If TangoDown eventually backs away from free replacements of Mk1 magazines due to folks returning 5, 10, or 20 of them at a time, there are going to be quite a few unhappy customers. On the other hand, if they all fit and function well for everyone, or with only a 5% trouble rate, it will be a win/win situation for TangoDown, Brownells, and the customers (us). I'm looking for them to work in CavArms lowers, S&W M&P-15, Colt 6940, and Sig556 platforms.

My brother got 20 of the MK1 mags from Brownells in the mail today and will be trying them out. I hope they work well for him but if not I'm glad to hear you stand behind your product. I did have a little trouble unloading a mag by hand as the bullets were tipping down but hopefully that won't happen during live fire. |

I got my 20 today also. I loaded 2 with M193, 2 with M885, 1 with silver bear 55gr and 1 with Wolf 55 hp just to get a feel for them. While down loading the mags, the Wolf HP's were getting stuck. Top rounds #1-13 would lodge against the front of the mag, refusing to strip. #14-29 came out no problem, last round lodged against the front. I had another mag where 2 M885 rounds did the same in sequence, around the #5 round. Oh well, Saturday is the range. Question if the Tango Down employee is doing a follow-up, has anyone taken a round file to the front of the MK1 for a lower round clearance? |
