I picked up a DPMS 308 SASS and now it needs some optics. I am ufortunately on a budget for now. I am thinking of going with the SuperSniper 10x with sidefocus with Larue scope mount. Which Larue mount should I go with to insure that I clear the rear buis? Should I be looking at a differnt configuration? Steve |

The height of the LaRue mount will depend upon your choice of rear BUIS. Using the low profile BUIS like the Troy, ARM #40L, Knights, GG&G MAD, you should be able to get away with using the LT104. Any of the A2 style BUIS from MI, GG&G, YHM, ARMS #40 will require a higher mounting platform, such as the LT135 and still may not work. Plus, the added height may disrupt you fom getting the desired cheekweld. If you are on a budget, the SS with rear parallax adj. is also one fine optic for the price of $100 less. |

I have the AP4 and am currently going through the same deliema that you are. I am pretty sure im gonna end up with the 20x SS. I dont plan on using the rifle inside of 100yds very often, and I like the reputation that SS has developed. To get what I want in a variable power scope, id be pushing a grand, and thats money I can use for a Bi-pod, rings/mounts, and trigger job. |
A 20x will have all sorts of problems with mirage on warm days - this is just too much power for normal use, and is almost certainly too much scope for a 16" barreled .308. A 10x will get you out to 600 yards no problem, and I'd top out at the 16x if you're planning to shoot past 600 regularly. |
