Built an AR upper using cheap parts (Anderson reciever). Bought a $500 Konus scope and mounted it with a set of Barska 30mm cantilever mounts ($25 for the set). During the mounting, I noticed that the scope didn't quite sit on the lower half of the rings smoothly but I pushed it in slightly and it did go in all the way down). Once tightened down, i noticed the scope was not perfectly parallel with the handguard/barrel - the front was skewed to right, back was skewed to left. Figured the most obvious culprit was the mounts... So I switched to the set of Vortex cantilever mounts ($70 for the set). The scope slid on to the rings smoother than the Barska but once tightened down to specs, the scope was still visibly skewed. The only 2 other things that could affect this alignment is the receiver picatinny rail or the scope itself. Is it possible that one of these parts is not true or could it be the mounting rings again? Is there a tool or method that I could use to measure the alignment? if I look directly into the front of the rifle, I could "see" that the center of the barrel is not aligned with the center of the scope lens. But this could be a optical illusion...I mean, the whole thing could be an illusion.

Take some photos of your rifle. Anything is possible, but sounds like receiver might be off.

Remove scope and place a straight edge along the underside of the clamping area, and see if parallel with barrel.  Could also be a bent scope, since it did not seat in the rings without pushing.
