Now that I have a couple Monolithic uppered rifles I feel like I want to get rid of the offset mounts and safe a few ounces and move the mounts to future builds on non mono uppers. Since I dont need a cantilever mount due to having the rail space being effectively doubled, what are decent rings? I had some Primary arms rings on my Ruger American Ranch and they seemed ok but I am sure there are better out there. Not sure how advanced they need to be since I dont really plan on popping the optics on and off like I used to do. Only reason I would need ro remove in field is for optic failure and go to irons. So those optics are going to be living on those rifles. Looking something QD as I dont want to have to fiddle.fk with an Allen wrench during the zombie apocalypse so QD would be nice. Dont need high speed levers and am not worried about RTZ. The good old fat QDish hex bolts are ok for me. Going for 1.5" as the seems to always be the perfect height for me with LPVOs. I trust y'alls judgement. |

Just for clarity, I believe you mean "cantilevered" mount should not be required on a monolithic upper (offset typically referring to a 45 degree mount/etc) That said, if you already have the scope you want to use properly mounted and leveled in a cantilevered mount, there isn't really much reason to not use it on a monolithic upper either, especially If you are concerned with QD ability and flexibility to put on other guns (sorry I'm confused about that too, at first you are talking about it living on the gun, then talking about QD in the next paragraph) Basically, if I was happy with the mount on a regular upper, I would just port it over to a monolithic upper and not change it. Then you can still put it on any upper you want, and don't have to bother with re-leveling, etc. Any weight savings in a cantilevered vs non version of the same mount is probably going to be negligible. |

Badger Ordinance has non cantilevered mounts that are more slick, but they are actually heavier... I think your best bet is to just go with the precision rings of your choice unless you want to stick with a brand of mount for piggyback or offset interoperability. For rings I'd look at Area 419, MDT, Nightforce, Badger Ordinance, Griffin, Spuhr, Seekins.... there are quite a lot to choose from. |
