Are these worth it. I've bought a couple AR rifles to be gifts for my sons when they become adults.  A looong time from now.  I won't be shooting these.  Is it worth it to put them in a rust proof bag in the safe?  I don't know anything about these bags.  Thanks.

The type that give off a vapor or the type you wrap the gun with a vapor paper then seal in the special bag are great.
These will totally prevent rust for 10 to 15 years.

Plus, the bags will protect the guns from getting small dents and dings from other guns being moved around in the safe.

I use Z-Corr bags for the same purpose you described.  The firearms were cleaned and protected with Boeshield T9 before putting them in the bags.

Three+ years later and there is no indication of rust.

I used the kind you can suck the air out of they sell at Wal-Mart. The kind you can put blankets and clothes in. I sprayed the guns down with Birchwood/Casey Barricade and vacuum sealed them. They stayed in my safe for three years while I was in Okinawa. Not a single sign of corrosion when I opened them and clean-up was a breeze. I'm confident they could have lasted a lot longer. I had them in a Browning safe with the Golden Bar. And my pop kept fresh dessiccant in there with them.

I tried the Bianchi Blue bags a few years back. It not only elimiates any moisture in the bag , it also eliminates any oil. The guns came out bone dry 6 months later with a white film on the wood grips. The film wiped off and the guns needed a totall     disassembly to be relubed.
keep a good coat of oil on the guns and your good. I use Birchwood Casey barricade on the outside of all my guns and rust just doesn't happen. save the bags for when you bury the guns underground.
