| Is there anyway to get rid of surface rust forming on stainless steel, and keep it away? |
| It does rust, I have a .45 that is stainless and it is subjected to moisture, I live in NH and I carry it in a nylon holster. It has tiny spots of surface rust not so much a corosion, but just little brown spots. In the past oil and a rag has removed them. You are supposed to keep stainless oiled more then blued, armor-cote, or other methods of finishing. I dont want to scar up the slide alot with something to abrasive. I was wondering if there is some product or trick to removing it. Those who think stainless does not rust need not reply. Thank you |

Stainless aka corrosion resistant steel (cress) does rust. The carbon content has nothing to due with it but the nickel content the higher the less chance of rust. A light coat of oil will help stop rust. If the stainless is a polished finish I use Flitz metal polish and fiberglass cleaner. |

My dad used to say,"it's says stainless, not rustless" on some of our cheap kitchen knives that would start pitting. Of course we would throw them away... who wants to eat rust? My savage has 2 spots where its likes to rust a little. nothing like a carbon barrel, but rust none the less. |
