| I am finishing up my varmint build and have a question about scope ring height. I have a set of Tactical Precision High rings coming. The height is 1.185 inces from the bottom of the base to the center of the ring. Is this high enough to use on an AR with an A2 stock and have a good cheekweld. I know the scope will fit (40mm objective), but i am just worried about the scope still being too low. Has anyone used this height of ring before, and if so what's the word? Thanks guys |
| The "normal" height of the iron sights on an AR is 1.4" which I assume was arrived at after a lot of human factors/ergonomics studies. Also, I assume that the height was arrived at assuming the shooter would normally be wearing a helmet. I use "ultra high" Leupold rings which duplicate the iron sight elevation above the rail (1.4"). Using bulky ear protection, the cheek weld, comfort factor, etc. is just fine with that set up. Whether your selected rings fit your needs depends on issues related to your size, the way you hold the weapon, etc. Pretty hard to predict, but your scope line of sight will be about 0.30" below what would be normal for an AR. If you "trial-fit" your set-up, make sure you do so with your intended ear protection in place, as I have acquiantences who didn't do so, and got to the range for real shooting and were disappointed. |
