Is it it normal, or even OK, for the rear sight to be almost over to the left hand side of the available windage area in order for the rifle to shoot straight? It's not quite to the end, but fairly close. The rifle is super accurate and I don't have any problems with it, but it kind of looks strange. It's an A1. |

Normal, No. The rear sight should be no more than 13 clicks off center when zeroed (really for the a-2 upper, but you get the drift). As long as the barrel is not bent or loose, then the barrel can either be re-indexed in the upper via a leather mallet (slipping the entire barrel in the upper receiver socket), or the barrel nut loosed, and the barrel just re-indexed in the upper receiver socket via shims. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=66&t=290460 |

The barrel needs to be drifted the same direction that the rear sight needs to be moved in order for it to be zeroed. If the rear sight is left of center, then the barrel needs to be slipped in the barrel socket to the right (looking from the butt stock to the muzzle, and you will make your hits to your FSB just above the barrel on the non-ejection side with the non-marring leather mallet. |
