I know it's not what you asked but wouldn't it be a lot less hassle to just get a new buffer with the weight you want?

Several folks sell them, I bought my last 9mm buffer  (which is what your asking about, the heavier replacement for your "H" buffer): www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=9MM0107&storeid=1&image=9part3.gif

Well you could actually go with an "H2" or "H3"......

You can get steel rod, or tungsten rod at most machine shops.

Check to see if the buffer is hollow, add the rod.

Don't pack the weights too tightly... they are supposed to slide back and forth a bit to delay the return stroke of the bolt carrier.

Thanks for all the help fellas. It wasnt that dificult to open the buffer as I held it firm in a vice with a piece of cow hide around it.The pin came out fairly easy it was the rear polyurethane plug that took a little to wiggle out.The weights themselves are 5/8 of an inch and the rubber spacers there are 3 are 1/16.I could get new buffers like an H2 or H3 but those are expensive. The 9mm buffers are cheaper but I do have a local machine shop who said he can cut them from tungsten for about $10 wich is way more cost effective.Again thanks much appreciated...927
