I'm new to the IBZ and I'm trying to understand it.  I followed the following link, and while it seems pretty straightforward, I have one question.

Ref the the following link:  Maryland AR15 Link

Step 10:
If you're patrolling, set the sight to 8/3 and snap the aperture forward to 0-2. This will provide the same trajectory as above but with a larger, easier to see thru rear sight. Use this setting if you also have the M68 mounted as it's quicker to transition to if the sight fails.

My question is, for short range work, why wouldn't you have the sight set to the 8/3 -2 clicks instead of the 8/3 setting as stated above.  The way this is stated it seems to counter the benefit of the IBZ.  Is there some trajectory difference when using the small vs the large rear sight aperture?

Yes, on the standard A2 sight the large aperture is on a different sight plane than the small aperture.  There is a same-plane conversion available which would obviate the need to change the elevation clicks.

El_Roto,

Thanks for the explanation.  That makes sense.
