Guys it is my understang that if the upper is chambered in 5.56/223 i can shoot both and be fine. if it is in 223/5.56 I could run into problems with the primers  causing malfunctions right?

If your bbl is marked 556 don't worry about it.

That is the general consensus.  That being said, I haven't seen very many .223 barrels.  If your barrel is marked 5.56 you are GTG.

While the actual cartridge portion of both .223 Remington and 5.56mm NATO chambers is identical, the part just past where the bullet goes, known as the "leade" is very different.  This is the part where the rifling begins, and how long and steep the angle is is critical.  .223 chambers have a short, steep leade, while 5.56mm chambers have a longer, more gradual leade, allowing the latter to handle higher pressure loads.

Why do people put "question" in the subject when they could put something that actually tells us about the thread they started?  

Oh and just to add my two cents, shooting .223 from a 5.56 is slightly less acurate.  (Not that many of us are that good to notice.)
