I have been working on a project I call "Bore Floss"  I have purchased boresnakes and for $10-$20 felt a bit ripped off. So I started looking at an alternative. I asked the wife who is a crafty lady.  That did not sound right.. I mean to say, she is into doing a lot of hand crafts :-)  So I asked her if she had seen this material in her journeys. She said lets go to Jo-Ann fabric (I didn't know guys were allowed in there?) Sure enough in the drapery section there is a product they call cotton piping in about 6 various sizes. I picked 9.5mm for the .223. It looks like 100%cotton packing encased in a cotton fishnet like rope. http://www.jkmribbon.com/wrights/pip2.html   I then found a product called "lead tape" . Looks more like lead cores with a string in the middle all slid inside a cloth tube. I used this for the pull cord.  With the added lead center providing  weight,  this easily drops through the bore. The only thing I did not plan on was to insert  a bronze bore brush.   My reasoning there is that I use the "Wipe-Out" spray.   You squirt this stuff down the bore in either end muzzle or breach and it fills the bore up with what looks like shaving cream. Let it sit for 60 minutes and "WipeOut" the bore. Or if it is a real dirty bore let it set longer, say over night and repeat until no blue (copper) or dark  gray (carbon) shows on the "BoreFloss". NO brushing required!!!  Then I take a second "BoreFloss" put some CLP on it and swab it through the bore a few times. The BoreFloss is reusable and washable. I just take a mason jar filled with hot soapy water throw in the BoreFloss and shake vigorously. Hand wring and hang to dry.

Total cost was $1. The cotton piping is $.28 a yard and the lead tape was $.62 a yard you need ~1 yard of each.  Less for a pistol and you'll need to adjust the diameter selected in cotton piping. Depending on caliber you need it for.  I am sure you could get fancy and put on some heat shrink tubing at the ends to dress them up and maybe add a bore brush in the middle. But I wanted to keep it simple. To clean only the bore. It really does a nice job. Remember what your dentist always says.. "Don't forget to floss" :-)

If anyone has questions feel free to drop me a line in e-mail.
