they had the same father...finally got my 80% Stoner 63A receiver....now to get a few weeks when I'm not busy

| if it involves scale machinist drawings, measurements, numbers with +/- .0005" and stuff like that, it may be a while. As I update, I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can get one of the engineers at work to show me how to use the CAD software. Otherwise, it's 1977 technology and a No.2 lead pencil for me. I think Mongo posted a video with line drawings somewhere on line. |

Gunbroker "Buy it now" of $250 yielded approx. 45 parts I can use on my project (not counting a half zillion Belleville washers). I'll salvage them all at the shop sometime next week, if I get time. Moving along nicely. Glad my tetanus shots are current.

| I figured they went into it and were used to center in the hole receiver hole (in addition to mounting on a tripod). Having never seen a virgin trunnion nor an original print, I'm not sure if they are press fit/interference fit or threaded into the trunnion. Mine are damaged on the ends and I was going to machine them off and replace them. Thanks much for the print (in the event we have to make one). |

| Thanks, Sarge. You and Schaz42 have been extremely helpful from a technical standpoint. Still stripping the demi Stoner parts (a mix of 63 and 63A parts). Between a mill, die grinder, file, hammer and punch set, I'm getting there. Unfortunately, the saying is true (especially in this case)....a gun's two worst enemies.....rust and politicians. And in this case, hang them all for treason and destruction of national treasures. Will have to drill out all of the roll pins and solid pins because of rust. Still able to salvage more parts than I need. Will post photos of them next week. Thanks again. |
Okay Sarge, with a die grinder cut off wheel and a pair of pliers, the sheet metal receiver pieces peeled away from the trunnion except from where it was welded around the mounting pin. The part that looks like I ground into the trunnion was where the weld fused to the trunnion around the mounting pin. I had to grind about 1/1000" down into the trunnion to break through to show the trunnion to pin interface outline. That will get rewelded so it's no biggie (in fact, it's the first time I did something by myself that my boss that didn't say that it looks like a monkey did that  ). As the pins have to come out to reinstall the trunnion, I'll have to mill/drill them out and install new ones. Now to soak it and hope the rust welds break to free up the barrel pin and the extension. It may have just be easier to make a new trunnion. Again, thanks for your help.

The parts keep coming out of the woodwork. Have a few more parts inbound. If I stopped acquisitions now, for a carbine configuration, all we'll have to make will be a rear sight, trigger guard, gas tube, bolt carrier, and op rod. Weld the trigger housing back together. Weld all the mounting points in place. Engrave the receiver and trigger housing. Phosphate or black nitride the finished pieces. And it may just work. Fingers crossed. I haven't been this excited about a gun project since I converted my HK94 to an MP5. |

I know some one with a 63 op rod without the carrier. He is willing to sell it and I can find out a price if you are interested in it. You would have to weld a tab on it to work with the 63A receiver but other wise they are the same. He also has a couple of trigger housings and he might part with one. They are 63a housings. Those I am not sure if he is into selling them but he might.
Is that fore grip off an airsoft gun or an original?

| That would be great if you could ask. Had to cheat on the stock and fore end. They are air soft. I'm just building a novelty range toy and it doesn't have to withstand the rigors of military testing. I just missed out on an original MG fore end for under $100 :( Thanks again for your help. |
| It was (and still is) a neat concept. It had some flaws that had not been worked out. Politics, timing, and economic considerations helped prevent it from being adopted as a primary service rifle/ machine gun by the US military. There is a lot out there written about the subject. As flawed as it may be, it has a following. |
