I am kicking around the idea of building a 9mm AR-15.  I have seen several types of mag conversions and was wondering if anybody out there had any advice for me.  Thinking of a R.R.A. complete upper(post ban).  I know a lot guys don't like the "9" but I'm looking for something different.  Just a plinker.

Thanks,  Jaybo

I'm with you brother.  There's this dark part of my brain that tells me I gotta have an AR 9mm before I die.  Anyway, looking around the net for mags from time to time I come across 9mm AR mags and it seems like each and every method is ex-friggin-pensive.  My initial thought would be to go colt type unless there was a compelling reason to do otherwise (like cost).  There has to be more colt (I'm not sure milpec is appropriate here) types out there than any other, they just might not be available.

Tyrod,
I came across a web site - socommfg.com - and they sell an adapter that uses sten mags.  I don't know anything about the mags, but I have heard they are plentiful.  My wife doesn't like shooting the .223s so I thought I would tell her I was building the gun for her.  She already has a 9mm pistol, so the addition of a 9mm rifle would be good for us (I mean her).  Ha Ha.  Well I am going to go through with the build, just have to decide who to buy from.

I kicked around the idea of a 9mm AR, and was going to do it oo untill I started a preban project.

I was going to use the SOCOM mag block and use unmodified Sten mags (easily had for about 5 bucks apiece).

Buy either a good removable magazine block or better yet get a Colt 9 MM mag block and pin it in just like on a Colt 9MM SMG.

For blaster mags just use 25 round Uzi mags.  They are cheap and everywhere used and I have some that look like hell and still work perfectly.

To use them in a Colt just cut the mag catch hole in the Uzi mag.  They don't hold the bolt open on the last round but who cares.  A better solution that the Sten and you can still use the mags in an UZI.

PS If you send your lower and the Colt mag well 9mm parts set we will install it for you for $50 and return shipping.
