Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to the AR platform, but over the past few months I've been diving in and trying to learn as much as I can. I wanted to build something that wasn't just visually appealing, but also made sense from a compatibility and reliability standpoint. I spent a lot of time researching parts, trying to make sure everything would work well together and that I wasn't just throwing together a collection of expensive components. My goal was to build a rifle that I could trust, learn on, and continue improving over time. I'm sure there are things I could have done better, and that's exactly why I'm posting it here. I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from those of you with more experience. If you see something you'd change, something I overlooked, or have suggestions for future upgrades, I'd love to hear them. | You would be better off buying a Colt LE-6920, available for around 700-800 used, you are getting a good upper and lower and barrel along with a good BCG. Then change out the handguard, Buttstock and maybe trigger when you are used to the rifle. Then add a Radian Charge handle, Midwest industries handguard, along with a nice drop in or Geissele trigger of your choice. Later add a weapons light and drop some money on a LPVO or a red dot. Aimpoint PRO would be my choice for my first build. |

Can't click in the items in your link to see exactly what they are, but here's my opinion: The barrel and trigger are most important. Get a 1:7 midlength 16" barrel if that is the length you are after. If there are budget concerns, Ballistic Advantage barrels have worked great for me, but my best barrel is a Geissele. Trigger- once again Geissele is best. The SSA-E cannot be beat. BCG- Get a Toolcraft. Many other brands are just rebranded Toolcraft anyways. Optic- Primary Arms is an outstanding budget option. Figure out what you like, upgrade later. Everything else is window dressing and personal preference. Receivers don't really matter as long as they are in spec. I use G rails and charging handles (Radian is a great opion also), B5 stocks, Magpul K grips personally. Sprinco springs and H2 or H3 buffers. |

Now I can click your links. Whatever. The barrel you have picked out is carbine length gas. Mid-length has less recoil impulse and wears parts less. Strike Industries is trash. A milspec CH would be better than that. Get a MLOK rail. Forget about that carbine handguard unless you're really wanting some kind of look. Your muzzle device is a thread protector. A regular A2 Birdcage works well until you decide which suppressor you want and upgrade to compatible muzzle devices. The optic you have picked out will fail after a few mags or likely will never hold zero. You can save money on the receivers and spend more on quality parts now, and upgrade others later. |

Just sign up for the Daily deals on Palmettostatearmory.com and buy you a $500 rifle. You can always change out parts after you learn the system and learn what parts you need and want. I started 11 years ago with a cheap Black Friday DPMS. I now have 12. The only thing left of the original are the receivers. I would buy one with a free float rail/handgaurd. That is the first thing people chamge out because they regret not getting one. Goodluck |

That barrel with lo-pro gas block setup will not work with those handguards. You'll need a free float setup for that setup. Or get a barrel assy that includes the front sight base (FSB), handguard end cap and barrel nut. |

I like looking for decent deals on lightly used/take off parts that people sell in the EE here or tacswap. It takes time and some knowledge of parts compatibility and quality, but it’s fun in its own way. Got a good barrel for a song once because it had a broken casing stuck in it. It turned out to be a great shooter. Finding an upper you like and getting building out the lower with your choice of parts, is easier tool wise. |

Build the whole thing. It's fun, and you'll learn a lot. Here is where not to save money: Trigger: A Geissele G2S is my floor. Lower parts kit: I like Spike's Tactical. White Oak Armament sells a good one too. Buffer and spring: Spikes, Geissele, JP Enterprises, and many others. Here's where to consider a splurge: Barrel. The ratio of ammo cost to barrel life is such that barrels are comparatively cheap even at the high end. If you must scrimp, Ballistic Advantage is the floor. If I were splurging on a general use rifle, I would go Geissele, FN (Spikes and Palmetto State Armory sell them), or Daniel Defense. Here's where to save money, just stay away from the very bottom end: Bolt carrier group: Toolcraft is the floor. Receivers Grips and stocks Handgaurds: UTG Pro is good. AR15 Discounts's NBS house brand works fine for recreational use. Receiver extension. Flash hider: Get a basic A2. Gas block Gas tube |

You can save a few bucks going with a BCM blem upper I've used 2 of these and I didn't see any obvious nicks or scratches. They come with dust cover and forward assist parts. Great deal for $60 |

I'm with the folks saying Colt 6920. Buy an Aimpoint Pro or Primary Arms SLX microprism and some Magpul mags and cheap brass case ammo. You can upgrade trigger to a Geissele at some point. Eventually you might go with a different handguard if what you buy doesn't come with an mlok free float and add a light. Don't buy crap. PSA is OK, but Colt is better quality. Alternatively, Brownells has Daniel Defense uppers on sale for a great price, and you'd be smart to choose one of those and buy an assembled lower if you're interested in an SBR. You couldn't beat that deal if you tried |

After looking over your parts list you would be better off buying a PSA. The optic you have on that list is worthless. I would at least buy a Sig Romeo 5 or a Holoson. PSA often has sales that have complete lowers for $99, bolt/charging handle combo for $89 and uppers for $149. That puts you at $337. Well within the budget from you parts list and gives you a little more for an optic like an Sig or Holoson. That would be a better starting point to get your feet wet in the AR world. Then in a few months you can get a Colt, BCM, DD and a LMT |

Most red dots that don't crack $100 are not worth considering. Under $150, and if it's not a good sale, you're probably not buying something that's appropriately durable. Do yourself a favor and at least get a half-decent starter red dot (low end offerings in the $100-$250 range from Primary Arms, Holosun, Sig Romeo, Vortex fall into that category). Better yet, find a local firearms store, and go take a look at some of their optics to make sure you're getting a reticle (style, color, brightness) and window (shape, size, open vs enclosed design) you like. Most decent sized stores will happily demo products to try to earn your business -- a lot have demo models out on the floor for just that. |
