I just bought parts for my first build and was looking for links to maybe build instructions or video (Youtube) on the lower assembly. I'm an ex-grunt from the 80s/90s so I'm familiar with the platform but it has been some time and I could use some help with the lower build.
Here is what I bought. Upper Assembly http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-mid-length-5-56-nato-1-7-stainless-13-5-m-lok-moe-freedom-rifle-kit.html Lower http://palmettostatearmory.com/palmetto-state-armory-magpul-ctr-ept-lower-build-kit-black.html |

After about 87 dozen threads in BIY/Troubleshooting over the years, my build advice starts with this:
The very first thing you do, is sort through all the lower parts, identify the disconnector spring (the one with a flared end), and install it in the trigger (flared end goes in). |

I need tools.... I have a good work bench with a vise and various hand tools but it looks as though I need some specialized ones that I didn't know about. That isn't so bad... I love buying new tools.
Any recommendations for the ones that you are glad you bought? Any that were a waste of money? |

i also recommend a gem state wrench
the magpul wrench is good too i hear. i got a set of brownells roll pin punches. i think there was a kit for the ar15 brownells put out. get a bolt catch roll pin punch too, unless your easy, and calm, you dont want to scratch your lower. and a mag well vise block. all can be had minus the gemstate wrench on brownells |

Ok....just pulled the trigger on the Primary Arms 1x6 scope with the ACSS reticle so that is another $255 into the project.
http://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-1-6x-scope-patented-acss-308-reticle-advanced-combined-sighting-system-paps1-6x Bought their "economy" mount for $25 included in that price so I hope that does the trick. I consider that pretty good though.... have <$800 in it complete. Now I need to buy some ammo and go have fun. |
| Yea... it is all done now. I don't have the scope yet and I've pulled off the flip-ups. I'm going to zero and play around with the scope and leave off the iron sits for the moment. I think the next thing is to start putting rounds down range. I don't want any more gizmos on it. |

Magpul BEV Block Armors Wrench, if your only going to build a lower, then Tapco makes a very nice castle nut wrench for about $10. Wheeler Delta Series AR 15 Bench Block (no absolutely necessary but highly recommended. A good hammer, and mallet with soft ends Set of Punches steel and brass KAK Industries Walt's tool is highly recommended 1/4" Carriage pin (can pick it up at any hardware store, it works great for the front takedown pin detent and spring) 1/2" Torque wrench Roll pin punches (I prefer the ones with whole in the center of the punch) |
