This was my first step into the “clone” world. Obviously this is not a perfect reproduction but in a short amount of time I think it’s a good start. I’m hoping others who have done this can suggest things I might look to change. I was inspired by the videos from Larry Vickers on his Car-15 and 9-Hole Reviews on their Gordon Carbine. I’ve done a number of changes on this throughout the build but this is the list of its current state. Upper: Colt “CM” marked A2 upper. I started with a Colt “CH” marked A1 upper while I was waiting to find an old production C7 receiver. That hasn’t happened yet but for now I’d prefer the period correct A2 vs a new production C7. Barrel: Colt “C” marked 14.5” M4 profile barrel, 2004 production. I started off with a new production Colt 16” barrel with the intention of immediately cutting it to flush fit a AEM5 suppressor. That plan will be on the back burner for a while. Light: Surefire 660 w/ the old pressure pad and barrel clamp mount. Other upper parts: Colt 6 hole handguard. Colt flat delta ring. Colt “C” marked bcg, late 80s production. Optic: Aimpoint 5000 mounted on a Colt marked ARMS M16A1A2 weaver rail. This is my favorite piece of this build by far. Had an Aimpoint CompM2 as a placeholder until I could find the 5000. Lower: Colt AR-15 A2 Govt. Carbine receiver w/ restricted markings. Figured this would be close enough compared to the correct M16 A2 Carbine lowers I’ve seen. I started off with a CMT lower as I wanted something older but didn’t want to pay the premium for pre-ban or Colt lowers but that didn’t last long. Stock/Buffer Tube: 2 position tube that has a 3rd hole drilled. Came off an Eagle Arms pre-ban lower. The Car-15 stock came from that lower as well, unsure of manufacturer at this time. I’ve seen them mounted to rail like that, taped or clamped onto the handguard, and with the barrel clamp either under or in front of the fsb. Quoted: Very nice rifle! Hows it shoot? I haven’t shot it in it’s current form yet, especially with my ammo stockpile not wanting to dwindle. But with some of the previous parts used it is a great rifle. Just because of how light and simple it is it’s tempting to replace my modern builds with it. Only negative is battery life on the 5000. |

| Great Job OP! The reason we have the high speed accessories on our AR's now is due to those guys always trying to improve equipment and tactics. I have Colt 653, XM4 and M16A1 (603) clones. I also have an 11.5 pistol/ brace with red dot and an URG-I with LPVO and offset MRDS. They are all great in their own respect. Clones are cool pieces of history we can own. |

I don't drink or go out to bars or anything like that, guns are my vice and my wife approves so even though I spend a few thousand bucks a year on it, it's probably less than a lot of people spend on their entertainment and food/beverage expenses. Part of the fun for me is the hunt, as I'm sure many will agree with. My own gothic serpent build has been fun and frustrating. I'd be just about done with it if I hadn't lost some parts int he mail. |

I definitely noticed the excitement on searching every day for something rare and then finally finding it. Happened when I finally tracked down and bought my 5000 before someone else did.
