Got the RC back, and holy shit. Completely refinished, new collar, new bearing surfaces, new baffles. It is absolutely flawless and brand new. I can't believe they didn't charge me a penny. I'm actually a bit shocked... they basically sent me a brand-new can for free. I love you, Surefire.

I have two MK18s Block 1s I want to add a Surefire light with IR capabilities to use with my NVGs and existing Crane pad. Getting confused with all of the various bodies, heads, and tailcaps on the market. Just don't want to spend $400+ on a new Surefire Scout Pro Infrared for both rifles if I don't have to. I'm fine with beat up surplus lights as long as they work. What is my best used or surplus options? M952V? Just getting confusing info on what will work with my setup. Or if it's cheaper to buy a used body, separate dual infrared head, etc.. Need... -GWOT clone-ish -Both IR and regular beam -Tailcap options that work with my existing Crane pads on both rifles. |

But I'll just say, there are few AR pleasures that equal a quality Colt/DD/FN 10.3" barrel and a DD RIS II coming together in a passionate embrace. Add in a Surefire RC or NT4, snuggled up to the rail with the absolute bare minimum of gap necessary to function, and it's a beautiful thing. Even after all the years I've been shooting them, the CQBR Block II is still far and away my favorite configuration. Built properly, you have an extremely compact and ridiculously reliable little tank that you can abuse the hell out of, and it'll just keep coming back for more. Have to hand it to Crane; they hit it out of the park with the Mk18/CQBR concept. |

Funny becuase I do have a RIS II on an M4 upper and another RIS II without the front sight cut out waiting to go on a KAK Socom M4 profile upper. If I want super short I use my 7.5 or 9.5” but I’ve always looked at those like range toys. Not the grab in the middle of the night rifle. I will say the 7.5 has gone thousands of rounds without an issue. It’s just horrible for ballistic performance. |

Finally bought a MK18, I presume a 50 yard zero is preferred over a 25 or 36 yard zero for sighting in a set of Knights Armament BUIS on a 10.3 inch barreled upper? Or is there a range of opinions on that as well. |

Yeah, I hesitated buying an exact match back in 2019-2020 or so and have regretted it ever since. I've seen a couple of others from that same batch, but always seemed to miss them for one reason or another. I thought this one might be a match, but it's so hard to tell the actual color with anodizing. Either way, the Block IIs are sporting a happy matched pair now :D. As an added benefit, the URGI gets a pristine, early non-marked contract 99051 instead of a slightly dinged one. Funny enough, I've managed to end up with 2 matched pairs of 99051s, all purchased at different times, lol. |

Debating trying the Knights micro front sight instead of the Knights M4 front sight on MK18 just to try a narrower front sight post. However, if the internet is to be believed the thicker front sight post is actually easier to pick up quickly at closer ranges but a narrower post would allow for more precise longer range shots. Sounds like it is yet another case of try both and decide based on personal preference and use case. Rifle has an optic I'm just trying to get the rest of it dialed in. |
