I ordered a YHM 1:7 diamond fluted barrel, from a company (I'm not going to trash them yet).  I got home today and there was a long triangle shaped box on my porch.  Expecting my barrel in I knew what was suppose to be in the box.  I  went over to the box and when I picked it up I instantly knew it was not what I was expecting.  Upon further inspection the box was broke in the the middle and the only thing in it was an invoice (for my barrel) and some bubble wrap.  I have called the guy and the post office.  The company I bought the barrel from is waiting to see the outcome from the post office.  In the mean time I don't have a barrel.  In the end is the vendor over all reasponsible for this or am I going to have to deny the charge with my credit card company.

If the post office finds the barrel I don't want it (it has been rolling around on floor or vehicle it is going to look like hell).  Any suggestions on how to handle this?  Also has anything like this happened to someone else on here?  Some how I think I'm going to get hosed on this.

That's not on the vendor at all.  Needs to be taken up with the USPS, sounds like someone stole your barrel in transit.

why would you trash the company you bought it from? they didn't forget to send it. hopefully the usps will make good, but it could take a while. good luck!

Yes, it happened to me three times.  Once a barrel and bolt combo arrived and when I picked up the tube the barrel slid out on the concrete drive, no bolt.  Another time a barrel showed up sticking out the end of the shipping box, another time USPS delivered an upper to me and the box was coming apart, totally soaked through.  The only thing holding it together was the bubble wrap inside the box and the tape around it.
I have had packages arrive empty, missing parts, parts mucked up, or not at all... and it has all ended well.
I had a order that failed to arrive and I was told, and later verified with the PO, that 14 days needed to pass before a claim could be filed because it took that long before the item would actually be considered missing.  After 14 days a replacement was shipped and received.  After 30 days, the original shipment showed up.  Since your order did show up but missing parts, my guess is the vendor will reship right away.  My vendor shipped my missing bolt almost immediately but I did have a run around from UPS about picking up the damaged box.  UPS wanted the barrel returned just to file a claim for the missing bolt but I did not want to do that, so after a bit of discussion and a phone call to the distribution center (the drive made the call) we finally settled, get this now, that UPS took the empty shipping box that had the end missing but the only claim made was for the lost bolt.  UPS wanted the entire order turned over in order to process the lost merchandise claim.
All kinds of things happen.  I've  known a lot of kids who worked their way through college working at the UPS distribution center.  They usually work the early morning shift since most planes leave between 2 and 6 AM.  After classes all day, studying/drinking part of the night, little sleep, then working their asses off, they couldn't care less about how they handle the packages.  Just get them on their way.  Its a wonder anything arrives unbroken...
It's a PITA but it will all work out.

By the way, you don't have to do anything but notify the vendor.  He must file the claim and the barrel will not show up.  Anything like that not in a package is usually trashed since they have no way of knowing who it should go to (at least that is what they told me).  The vendor will reship your barrel and the USPS will reimburse the vender for the lost parts.

Notice, I did not trash talk the vendor, but if the vendor does not work with me on this I will make sure to let everyone know.  I did not receive the product I paid for.  If I do not get the barrel or get my money back you think I should be left holding the bill?  I'm a little confused on your statement?  They choose the shipper (I myself actually would have choose UPS not USPS), they packaged the item and it never made it to me.  They could have sent me an empty box for all I know (I honestly do not think that is the case here).

I feel for you and hope I am not in the same boat, I ordered all the parts for my build and had them shipped UPS.  I have been tracking it the last couple days, and then today I see the update dropped off at local post office for delivery.  That pissed me off so bad I immediately went to the post office to retrieve it but was told that was not possible.  I avoid the usps like the plague, I have had a few "items lost in transit".  One box you could clearly see where the tape was cut then retaped.

I appologize to all the honest postmen out there I realize you are in the majority, but there are a few thiefs and the PO will not help you in any way.

I've had things like this happen, more than a few times in fact. Good luck getting it resolved.
