| can anyone send me in the right direction for some information on midlengths vs carbine length gas systems? would like to know the pros/cons. thanks |

Armalite designed the Midlength. This article explains the idea behind it. www.armalite.com/Categories.aspx?Category=44b25b45-f034-474a-906f-00ce49f5c33e |

thanks but i could not find anything on in the armalite link about it. if the midlength has all the benefits of a carbine (including the same size barrel as the carbine) why does the military not use this gas system length? Obviously you cant tell me really why but was just wondering what yall thought. |
My best guess is that the M4 carbine has been "in the system" for some time now and is currently established as a reliable and effective platform - while the midlength is a relatively new development ... Reluctance to change, economics, politics, questions regarding incremental advantages, T&E of gas piston innovations, etc., etc., etc. are all probably some of the issues that would be prohibitive of a universal shift from the M4 to a 14.5 or 16" mid. |
Sorry about the bad link. Go to the armalite tech page and read tech note #48 |

Middy's are better then carbine gas system.. my first AR is a middy armalite and I love it.. I went for it after checking all the pro's of having a middy rather then a carbine.. got me an ACOG for it and will be getting a light.. and a new gas block.. that will be my 3.0 then when i get a new rail it will be 4.0.. but that will not be for a while I have a nice one as it is.. alot of ppl are telling me just to stick with what I have but I want the A.R.M.S rail or a DD FF rail.. but yeah middy ftw |
