Thanks for viewing my post. I think I have finally decided on a rifle. I have decided to get a CMMG 14.5" Mid-length or possibly the 16" mid-length. So with that said, my question is this: are all mid-length hand guards the same length? I want to get a Daniel Defense Omega Mid-Length Rail. These are 9" in length. So, are all Mid-length rails the same length? 9"? Thanks !! Wally |

Awesome man, thanks for the answer. Which CMMG rifle should I look at for the lightweight? The one I am looking at is the first rifle at the top of the page. cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/index_auto.php?shop=1&cart=1253910&cat=76& It doesn't seem to give any info in the description for this rifle. I do want something light. Thanks again man!! |

The link you posted is pretty much what I have (gov profile 14.5" middy), but if you want to go lightweight profile, look here for uppers and here for complete rifles. You'd be looking for "14.5" Lightweight Midlength" option. I picked out all the options/upgrades/etc on the CMMG website, but then called/emailed Chuck at www.SouthernMichiganArms.com with my order. I was VERY pleased with his excellent customer service / communication and got a great deal on the upper. ETA: spelling, sentence clarity and to add

Thanks for all the info man. So since I want to get the whole rifle at once, and I don't want a KISS rifle, I am probably gonna go with the standard 14.5" middy. So with that said, is this thing gonna be heavy? How much heavier than a 14.5 carbine? Seems like the handguards wouldn't add more than a couple of OZ's right? School me on this brother. :) EDIT: Also, I just recently sold one of my Romanian SAR-1 AK's with original wood. Any AR is gonna be lighter than that thing right? Thanks again dude !! |

Yeh, I am definitely gonna get the DD Omega Rail - those things kick ass !! So does anyone have the weights or anything on the mid-lengths? I did a Google search and came up with nothing. Would be killer if there was a chart or something that listed barrel weights and full rifle weights. I think that would come in mighty handy for the peeps out there. |
|
Don't have the exact weights, but you could ask in the CMMG Industry Forum: click here I would also suggest buying the exact (Lightweight) UPPER you want with every option you want. Even if it means buying a separate LOWER (or even assembing it yourself). You'll save money that way, have fun, and (most importantly) get exactly what you want. My $0.02
![]() (soon to have a MIAD grip, and eventually, when I have the $$$ an Omega 9.0) ETA: also, if you don't want to build it yourself, you could order a complete LOWER from CMMG a few days/weeks later on a TOTALLY SEPARATE ORDER from your upper so you don't have to pay the extra 11% (?) fee for a complete rifle. Then when they arrive, just snap 'em together and you're good to go! |

That's the diameter of the barrel all the way through and under the Front Sight Base. They mention the FSB info because it requires a .625 FSB rather than the standard .750 (?). They include it and install it, so it's just a FYI type thing. Typically, a Lightweight profile barrel is .625" diameter all the way and a Government profile is lighter under the handguards (.625) but gets thicker (.750) from the FSB to the muzzle. This website won't be exactly what CMMG or any other manufacturer has, but it is good general info with specs/dimensions and pretty drawings: AR15 Barrel Profiles Take a look at the "Lightweight" and "Government" profiles for comparison. |

Wall_E, I built my carbine using the CMMG 14.5" midlength barrel (it's not the lightweight version) with permanent phantom . Recently I installed a DD Omega 9.0 purchased from Brightflashlights. I wanted a no-mod freefloat that was light AND THIN in cross section. The Omega is great. I am totally pleased with this configuration! Mainrotor |

Wow, I am learning all kinds of cool stuff from you guys and I appreciate it. So if you guys had to guess - let's just say (and this is for example only) but let's say the lightweight barrel is 6 ounces, would the Government profile barrel be like 8 ounces or more like 12 ounces. If you had to estimate, how much heavier is the government profile barrel compared to the lightweight? And thanks again for all the great info. Mainrotor Do you have a pic of your rifle that you can post for me to check out? Thanks! |
|
HOLY F'ING SHIT that is one nice ass rifle you got there dude. That is EXACTLY what I am after. Thanks for the pic dude - you should be proud of that weapon. hich |
The barrel is only a different thickness for about 3" or so. I doubt you would be able to notice much of a difference between a govt profile and lightweight on a 14.5" midlength.
Yes, that's an N4 16" Recce. |

That is a beautiful rifle. I had ordered a Noveske N4 Light Carbine, but ended up cancelling the order. After I ordered it I got buyers remorse and started looking to get either a 6.8 or a Mid-Length standard AR in 5.56. So now, I still have no rifle and still trying to decide on what to buy. Buying an AR is like trying to decide on a car. At least with a car you can test drive them. hink |
