'67 603 A1, say serial number 754XXX. The markings above the selector----should it have the "COLT'S FIREARMS DIVISION COLT INDUSTRIES......" marking or the "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. ......." marking?
Thanks in advance guys. |

Colt company history shows they reorganized to "Colt's Firearms Division" sometime in 1964. 67 should be "Colt's Firearms Division, Colt Industries", I'd say.

I researched for the similer information when I was doing my 607.....and like many things Colt, it's confusing. Yes, Colt did reorganize in mid 64, but both the old and the new rollmark can be found on rifles built after 1964. Take a look on RetroBlackRifle at the XM177's . That site clearly shows a model 610 with the "old" rollmark. The picture of the XM177e2 (mod629) doesn't show it clearly, least not on my computer, but I believe that to also be the old Colt's Patent Firearms Mfg Co. I say that because, while not legible, the print extends to the back side of the sear pin area. (only print that did that was the old company name)
Both the 610 and 629 did not go into production until AFTER the reorganization. There are many other examples of post 64 rifles with the old rollmark. What your particular rifle in question would have I do not know. |

Wow, thanks for the great replies. I owe you one!
Now that we're on the subject of markings I had another question. Various pictures I've seen had the word "Firearms" with and without a space between Fire and arms. Any thoughts on that? Sorry for all the questions. Just want to get things right before they get "etched in stone". Again TIA. |
