I picked up one of the new DT PR stocks directly from Magpul. DT = Dual Tension PR = Precision Rifle Based on everything I read about the PR stock (non-DT) they released first, it wobbled a lot and the bottom was open, which allows dirt and stuff to get into the stock. It just wasn't very satisfying as a "precision rifle" stock. So the DT version has been hotly awaited I think. I got mine today. Attached File I disassembled it. I don't see any DT tension springs inside. In my Magpul SL stock, there are 2 (dual) flat metal spring plates running along the inside adding pressure to the buffer tube. This stock doesn't have that. It doesn't rattle or wobble, but I wouldn't call it "locking up tight" like my SL stock, which is frankly difficult to move. This seems tight enough, but it's just weird that they call it "DT" and then don't put dual tension springs inside. The only part that seems like it might be putting tension on the buffer tube is a square face on the bottom of the buffer tube locking channel. It seems like the round part fits into the position hole in the buffer tube, and the bottom part pushes up on the bottom of the buffer tube. I don't know. Attached File Anyway, I was hoping I could add a Larue RISR to the stock like I use on my CTR stocks. The channels where I think the dual springs would/should go (maybe mine was not assembled correctly at the factory) are where the inside steel rail would go for the RISR, so I guess I'm happy there are no tension springs. I drilled holes for the RISR. The metal rails line up on the inside, but they don't really fit in the stock, because the inside corners of the steel RISR rail block the buffer tube from entering. So I dremeled off the edge. It's not pretty but no one will see them anyway. Now they fit without an issue. Overall, I really like the stock, especially with the Larue RISR installed. Magpul could have just copied the internal dimensions of their most popular stock ever, the CTR and made it straightforward to install common aftermarket stuff, but no... whatever. Your carbine looks great! The Dual Tension or DT moniker comes from the two-stage mechanism that cradles / puts tension against the bottom rail of the receiver extension. Magpul went away from the two SL-type leaf springs for this one because folks complained about the finish wear they (the two leaf springs) put on their receiver extensions. Hope this helps... |

Of all the shit to complain about. People complain their stock wobbles, mfr puts leaf springs to provide solid lock up. People bitch that the leaf springs cause wear on buffer tubes, mfr removes the leaf springs and now the stock wobbles. Lather, rinse, repeat. |

The moniker "Dual Tension" no longer makes sense, though. And while this is not wobbly - it's about as solid as a CTR - it's certainly not as solid as the SL stocks, which lock up freaking tight. And that is probably what I'd prefer for a PR stock honestly. Oh well. Can't please everyone I guess. It's interesting that Magpul listens to customers though. For example, this is what the PR stock should have been from the beginning. I suspect the non-DT will evaporate eventually. |

I doubt it will. One of the higher ups on Magpuls Facebook ripped me a new ass hole for asking why they released the non DT, non QD socket version first. He informed me that it was the best version and that only the tactical Timmy's like myself cared about those features. |

Sounds like it's even more impressive they listen to what their customers want even when they don't agree with them and have contempt for them.

I've been looking for the right stock for my Larue 6.5, and just picked up one of these. No shooting with it quite yet, but so far so good. I'd say it's 90% as firmly gripped on the tube (with no secondary lever) as a CTR is with the secondary lever engaged. i.e pretty good in my opinion. My only gripe with it so far is that I wish the cheek rest area was just a little wider, maybe contoured a little more similar to a B5 sopmod. Probably something I can just deal with without much issue, but might look into risers sometime to see if there is any good solution that will work for me. The bag rider shelf on the bottom is perfect for me so far. |

There are aftermarket solutions or a full blown PRS stock available but this is magpuls turn key solution for a lightweight, collapsible stock that's made with longer distance shooting in mind.   |
