Magazines in ammo cans (Page 1 of 2)

Looking for pics and the number of mags you can fit in a fat 50 /saw can /tall 50?
Can anyone help me out? |

For comparison's sake, if you use a "short" 50 cal can you can get the following:
20x 30Rd mags if some have Ranger plates (right), or 22x 30Rd mags if they don't have Ranger plates (left) 
Or if you use a MTM 50 cal magazine can, you can get 15x 30Rd mags in it. Lots of waster space in these.

I know it isn't the answer you asked for, but incase you or others are looking for other options....ammo cans I quickly learned work well for me for ammo but NOT for mags. You just can't store enough mags in them. I use these large MTM "Ammo" crates for my mag storage...they are stackable..and they hold lots of mags :)

I wish there was a can that's as tall as the "Fat .50" , but same width as the standard .50.
I don't know how you guys store your magazines vertically in the regular 50. Mine seems to press right against the corner of the magazine when shut. I don't like that since it could damage the feeding lip area. |

It's about an inch and half taller than a "Fat 50", and 3" taller than, but with the same footprint as, the regular USGI 50 cal can. The Tall .50 gives me comfortable room for (24) 30rd mags w/ Magpul L Plates installed and standing on end, 4 more of those laying flat on top, and then (2) 20rd mags to fill the void:  Google "N463 box" and you'll find https://synergydefence.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1715 saying they have 385 such cans in stock at $19.95/ea. |

I've bought over a dozen of the 5.56 boxes. They are now listed as no longer available. Same for the ACR-12. I suspect that most of what MTM sells is made in China and there's been no production there for a few months. So, they are running out of inventory. The AR-15 mag box has not been available since last Fall, so I don't know what the story is behind that. I'm glad I stocked up when they were still available and priced low. |
