Has anyone tried this sight ?   In Brownell's they say to not use it on a railed gas block.
Is this a CYA move by Brownell's or is it because the sight is made of plastic and may
melt if gotten hot ?

Regards,

Scott

Yes, that's exactly the reason. Melts like Chocolate during a carbine course.

i think because it goes on the rail not the gas block...

Its not made for gas block. Thats why they say it.

Meaning, gas block flip up sights are a specific height.  They're taller than rail mounted, because railed gas blocks sit lower than handguard rails.
MBUS' are rail mounted because of their height.  No "CYA" or anything.  They're simply too short to be used on a gas block, like every other rail-height front sight out there.

Magpul has stated that it is not intended for mounting on the gas block...only on the rail.  The reasons include the gas block rail being too low and potential issues with holding zero.

They make it for the rail height only...because it would deform if mounted on a gas block.

I'll throw this into the mix just cause I had a picture of it.

I figured as much, but the price is right.  Thought I might be able to dodge the bullet on
paying out the ass for a front BUIS.  OH, well.
