How many of you guys who insist on a factory MP tested bolt follow up on a regular periodic reinspection schedule with either MP or Dye-pen testing?
If so, what is the inverval you use? If not, why not? |

I have access to MP testing through a company I used to work for. Any new bolt I get, since I don't usually purchase Colt (or others that test), I take in. I have never had a reject. I generally dont take them back for re-testing after that. MP testing, unless going into serious combat, is much overrated IMHO. I do believe, and can probably find some info., that with most manufacturers, the failure rate is less than 2%.
Don't get me wrong, some like the added comfort that it provides. Especially if the do not have the ability to get them tested themselves. In response to your original question, I am going to bet the farm that less than .1% have had their bolts re-tested. |

Bolts that last more than 10 rounds but fail in under 5000 rounds have defects that cannot be indicated with MP/MT. They fail under what is called low cycle fatigue and that is from material properties, not testing.
Things that make bolts prone to such failure are overstress from shorter barrels and poor heat treatment. |
