I'm installing a 2009 KAC M4 RAS on a Colt socom profile barrel and the bbl nut doesn't seem to want to go around the top half, it's as if the hook that grabs the bbl nut is too short or the profile is too thick.

Should be issue free. I just did one on my Colt SOCOM bbl 2 weeks ago. Bbl profile is a non issue.

Maybe a stupid question, but is the lever angled down enough to slip under the bbl nut lip?

I took the screw completely out of mine to install.
