I just received my VSeven buffer tube in the mail today, hoping that, due to what appeared to be a clever reduction in material, I could install it to shave a little weight off off my rifle. However, to my dismay, I discovered that it is .1oz HEAVIER than my current mil-spec tube. It's still a very nice product, and I will no doubt find a use for it, but I feel like I could have avoided wasting a bit of cash by doing some better research.
So, I have come here to ask if anyone knows of a well constructed mil-spec buffer tube that weighs less than 3.6oz? PS: This is my first post on this site, and I think I put it in the correct section, but please forgive me if I have not. |

A little costly, but considering it comes with the castle nut and endplate, I think that'll be ok. Comes to basically the same price as a VSevens tube with nut and endplate. Thanks :) edit: now the tricky part will be finding it in stock somewhere... |

Thanks :) edit: now the tricky part will be finding it in stock somewhere... Yeah it's pretty sexy. Especially since I run a piston and have to worry about carrier tilt. I called them about a week ago and they told me the tube will be available separately and together with the other stuff. So I went ahead have and bought the super aluminum castle nut and aluminum end plate by v7. Call to be put on their waiting list and when it's available they'll email you. Can't do that on the website. It hasn't been released separately from their rifles yet because they were working on the packaging. That's what the guy on the phone told me at least. |

PWS EBT Mod 2 weighs 4.5 OZ.. Where are you getting this info? Mod 1 weighs 5.5oz. The PWS website says its 1oz lighter, which would put it at 4.5. However without the castle nut and end plate I highly doubt that it weighs nearly an oz more than most buffer tubes. PWS is promoting the end plate, castle nut, and tube as one product. So it would be fair for them to include the weight of the other stuff as well. |

"Additional lightening cuts reducing weight in conjunction with the new attachment design net nearly a 1oz weight reduction from already efficient mil spec buffer tube design." I can only assume at this point that they are comparing the weight of their buffer tube/castlenut/endplate combo to the standard mil-spec tube/nut/plate combo. Although, it would be helpful if they posted an actual weight for each component in their set. I've been finding with some regularity now, that if a company claims their product is "ultra-lightweight" but don't post the actual weight, then it really isn't. I think I will just have to give them a call come Monday. |

I'm assuming the buffer tube is probably 2.6 oz because there's no way in hell that without hardware it would weigh 4.5 oz. that would mean that they would have to add aluminum rather than make cuts to it. Where would the extra oz come from besides hardware? |

(Setup i'm using) Comes in at 4.13 oz |

Doesnt look like you can due to the ratchet locking feature of the tube. Quoted:

Not if you use the PWS buffer tube coupled with the v7 aluminum castle nut/end plate. Guaranteed lighter than your current setup. Doesnt look like you can due to the ratchet locking feature of the tube. I called them last week. The ratchet locking feature comes from the castle nut interacting with the end plate. You can see it in the pictures or the YouTube video. They will sell the parts separately according to PWS. I probably won't purchase the combo. While cool, the extra oz or so in s7 steel (that's what they told me) is insane. |

I asked and the gentleman didn't know off the top of his head. But I'm assuming all the gunsmiths were at shot show. So I'll wait till this upcoming week. |
