I fitted a JP fire control system last night, the system seems to be almost OK now although I did have to remove a small amount of metal from the underneath the rear of the trigger bar (directly below the safety engagement area) so that I could get the correct trigger angle to get the disconnector to release on trigger release (it was way way off and no amount of grinding the disconnector nose was going to work!). My question is this. The disconnector seems to make contact with the hammer on cocking (after the trigger is released - i.e. not held back)it is only just making contact but is making the re-cocking stroke 'snag' on the disconnector. What should I do, grind a thou off the nose of the disconnector or grind the engagement area on the hammer a thou or two? I noticed something on the JP website about grinding the hammer hood but the instructions for this aren't too clear and I don't know what is meant exactly by the term hood. What have you guys done? |
| Ok, just had a chat with one of the guys from JP. Looks like the system might be fitted correctly afterall. Apparently the hammer is supposed to just strike the disconnector on cocking and push it out of the way just a milli-second before the hammer reaches full cock. Does this sound right? |

If you hold the trigger back while cocking, the hammer should push the disconector back and then catch on it. When you release the trigger the hammer should drop off the disconnector and catch on the main sear (at the front of the trigger/bottom of the hammer). I'd have to go open mine up and look to see what the disconnector does if the trigger is not held back while cocking. Playing with it in my head I would think that the hammer should not catch on the disconnector in that case. If it does, I think the solution is the same thing you'd do to make the disconnector "let go earlier" when releasing the trigger. |

Hi, Fitted the original trigger unit to see what used to happen, the hammer does not connect with the disconnector sear on cocking (with trigger released), it just misses by a couple of thou. Fitted the JP system but carefully ground the nose off the disconnector back a few thou, works perfectly now, disconnector still hold back the hammer to stop double shots etc and there is no risk of the disconnector holding back the hammer on every cocking stroke when the trigger is forward (released) - as this is what was happening. |
