Will homeowners insurance cover weapons stolen or damaged even if they don't know you have them?

Is there a special rider type thing to get?

Should i call my agent each time i get a new gun and give them the serial #?

I was just hoping that if i kept the serial numbers and some pics in a safe place that I would be good to go if anything happened and all the sudden i just got this creepy feeling that i need to do something else...

Delpends on your policy - read it.

Usually.  The compan I'm with (USAA) covers up to a certain amount, beyond that I needed a rider (which was very cheap).

Depends on the requirements of your company - read your policy.

USAA does not require serial #s, just that I have proof and I can show them, that I owned such a firearm.

My insurance co, Erie, covers up to $1000.00 on firearms or jewelery. Addtional coverage requires appraisals, serial numbers, inventory, etc.  I can't speak for the firearms rider, but the jewelry rider is expensive.

I think your best policy in the long run is a good gun safe.  That way, no one has a record of what you have.

Depends on your policy. As stated above. USAA only gives me a default 2k worth. That is about what I have in my one ar. It should be cheap for you to add on to whateva you have.

Pemco is $2500 for firearms.  I am in the process of getting a rider for jewelry.  That should be about $60/yr, which is almost half of my entire renter's policy.  What I keep at my house for firearms is around $2500 so I'm not too worried.

If you're an NRA member, then there's another $1,000 in gun insurance that way, too.

For most home owners policies, the replacement of just a few black rifles or pistols would cost more than what's in your policy.  I had to go with a rider policy, and I insured for full replacement value (having a few SBRs and suppresors will make you a little more appreciative of insurance), not original purchase value.

To get this, I have to give them SN, make, model, and accessories.  I further document with copies of any reciepts and pictures.

On most policies, as well, after a certain dollar amount, a safe or vault will be mandated by the policy.  I just had to purchase another 500lb Cannon just for the black rifles, and it was $600 well invested!

I am insured with USAA.  They don't need serial numbers, just proof.  I was able to insure all of my firearms, ammunition, accessories (cases scopes, etc.) with a separate rider for an additonal $15.00 a month.  This includes the ones in the safe and the ones that did not fit in the safe. I had to tell them that my ammunition was worth more than some of my firearms!!!  Then they added it to the rider.

Get a separate fire box for all of your recepits.   I have been through this before.  The receipts made all of the difference between a headache and a smooth claim.
