Hi all, (I asked in retro subforum, but maybe I should have asked here.) I am looking to identify my usgi a2 handguards. It's seems like it was glossy that returned to matte or matte that's been used to glossy. Can't really say which is which. It has the circle mold marks as it stated in that 'Guide', but mine are stamped/coded "H4" in circle mold on each handguard. It does have the "do not remove" stamped on heat shield with the correct bends and such. The heat shields are glued in which indicates later release as said in the 'Guide.' Can anyone help me identify either rarity, and/or specifics of this A2 handguard (especially in regards to the "H4" stamp/code.) https://imgur.com/a/2t32Zgj |

Those are indeed the real thing, but all I can say is that due to the glue retaining the heat shields they were made at least sometime between the very early 2000s and today. There is only one manufacturer making them, but I don't recall a name off the top of my head (someone here has to know). I believe the "H4" in the circle is just an indicator for the mold the hand guard halves came out of. I commonly see "H4" and "H1", but in the sets I've had/have I've never seen any other markings. Colt/Brownells, PSA/H&R, Old Bushmaster/Old Windham Weaponry, Specialized Armament and Echo Nine Three are the only places that have used or sold these handguards that I'm aware of. I did receive a set of these from LMT once, but it was a fluke because other A2 handguards I received from them were badly damaged surplus junk of mystery origin. |
