EDIT: OK, here is a borrowed image as I don't have a pic of mine on my server (I'll update when I can get a pic on the web)  Details: This (well if it was a pic of my gun) is my Colt R6600 which was my first AR-15. She is a Green Label with the threaded barrel and bayonet lug. I sold this gun back in 1999 before the Y2K crazyness and then manaaged to buy it back something like 6 years later when the person I sold it to relisted it for sale. She doesn't get shot much anymore but she was my first AR-15 and I shot quite a few CMP matches with here back in the 1990s. |

I'll save my thoughts on the people who can spend any amount of dollars on a rifle but can't devote 20 minutes to getting their body in shape for another thread. -skinnysarge79
 The above includes my rifles (left) an dad's rifles (right)  This is "my first rifle." Dad bought this for me when I was a year old or so. It was my first hunting rifle (shot it mainly from age 10 to 15). Shot the hell out of it. Many, many, many cases of wolf went through this carbine. It won't hit the broad side of a barn anymore.     "action pics"  This is dad's AR15 that I started my high power shooting with. Started shooting it around age 15 when I was big enough to hold it. Kind of heavy. Has about 25K rounds through it. Shoots about 2.5/3 minutes at this point.  When I moved out, I bought a Colt 6551. Mainly to fill the role dad's HBAR used to fill. Except be easier to carry, since I like to open carry when I hike. So far, it is supurb. 1.5 minute with 75 gr. ppu. I originally bought a nodak 601 lower to build a retro. Then I started shooting high power and loved it. So, I started with this.  Which became this.  And evolved into this tack driver.  So yes, I love AR15A2's.  |

Well, here are my A2s. On top is my early gray A2 with the large head forward assist and early pistol grip exactly like they were issued to me back in 1988. The upper is an FN upper and barrel and the lower is a McKay. Of course, this one also has the AN/PVS-4 starlight scope on it. If you look at how high the PVS-4 sits on top fo the carrying handle, you can kind of guess that stock weld using traditional methods is not going to work. If you are still rocking a PVS-4, a trick I learned years ago was to use your left eye rather than your right when using the PVS-4. It's a little awkward but at least you get some form of stock weld rather than having your cheek hovering someplace off the stock. Nope, no Raptor scopes of PVS-14s back then so this was a top of the line scope some 20 years ago!
Below that is my newer A2 variant. The main differences are the black finish rather than the gray finish on the earlier versions, the forward assist has a smaller head on it (to be honest, I prefer the early larger head variant myself) and the pistol grip was changed over to what we know today as the standard A2 pistol grip. On this one is fixed the M9 bayonet. This model was brand new to us when I got out of the Corps back in 1992. I think I seen them for maybe a few months before mustering out so while M9 bayonets were in use with some army units prior to Desert Storm, the M7 bayonet was a more common bayonet issued to USMC units and more correct for that era. Just below the second A2 you see an example of top of the line NVGs issued during Desert Storm, the AN/PVS-5. Not the most comfortable design to wear or extended periods of time and NOWHERE near as compact or flexible as a modern AN/PVS-14 but that was what we rolled with on our drive through Kuwait. On a positive note, the dual tubes did give better depth perception compared to the AN/PVS-7B or AN/PVS-14 that is in current use today. Today it seems like everybody that goes down range short of support troops are issued a PVS-14 but back in Gulf War I, the only people that got NVGs were drivers and gunners. If you weren't one of those people (fortunately I was an M-60E3 gunner so I got a set) it was a long, bumpy and DARK ride until you stopped to dig in. So how dark was it? Well, with the oil well fires blocking every bit of star and moon light, I would say that it was darker than the inside of the devil's vest pocket. Took my NVGs off once, waved my hand not mroe than 6 inches in front of my face and couldn't even guess where it was at. Yeah, it was DARK over there back then!!! Finally at the bottom we have a 727 clone. I've heard it called the 727, M-16A2 carbine or GUU-5A/P here in the USAF. When I came back into the USAF in 2004, this was our issue weapon in the cop squadron. Of course you can easily spot the longer 16" M4 barrel rather than the shorter 14.5" barrel but that's due to legal considerations. I live in a SBR allowed state but I just don't feel like jumping though the legal hoops for a mere 1.5" of barrel so I went with the 16" Bushmaster barrel instead. Speaking of the GUU-5, we still have 6 of them in our armory and one thing that sets it apart from the standard A2 in regards to the fire control group is that the USAF GUU-5 is full auto rather than 3-round burst. I always found this a fun feature since we get cop classes here that manage to have some of them failing to qualify with the M4 needing 18 out of 30 rounds on target to qualify. I don't get it personally but I generally have fun going back into the armory, grab any random GUU and still manage to get a qualifying (not pretty but qualifying, mind you) score with the old girl on rock and roll! My belief is if I can do this with the old GUU on auto, then no cop has a reason they can't qualify with a modern M4 on semi! 
But enough with my ramblings and on to the pic. Sorry for the crappy quality. I think I need to invest in a newer camera...although that would interfere with my "build money" so I guess I'll live with the older camera.

Here's mine. Just finished it in December, hopefully I'll be able to get it out and shoot it as soon as the weather gets decent. The build: FN barrel and BCG. Stag lower and LPK. Upper is keyhole marked, but I have no idea where it came from. I think it came from an M&A Parts Kit. Furniture came from Model 1 Sales. I just picked up some USGI handguards and a buttstock to put on it, so I'll have to trade it out when I get the chance. |

Here is my former Colt\RRA M16A2 forgery.
The Barrel and BCG (as well as the CH, handguards and gas tube) were genuine Colt M16A2 parts I got new and the Stock is a Colt CS stock (A2 material, A1 length). Everything else is RRA except for the grip (Magpul) and CH latch (PRI Military Big Latch). This is the nicest AR I every built or shot and I mean that in ever possible way. Everything fit, functioned and matched together like it was custom made (well it kind of was). Not even one tiny flaw or imperfection anywhere. The rifle also functioned perfectly and was the smoothest shooting AR I've ever shot. On top of all that, it also balanced like a dream... 
Like an idiot I took it apart and sold off the upper. Main reason is I'm just not an iron sights kind of guy. Biggest mistake ever. I can honestly say out of the all the guns I've bought, built ond then later sold, I regret selling this one the most

The upper half is a USGI M16A2 Colt brand new never issued which plenty of them were for sale after the ban, then I found a brand new take off stripped Colt model MT6601 Match Target HBAR at my local dealer in like new condition, for the LPK got it from SAW, Colt M16 auto BCG and CH from an AR15.com dealer and the buttstock group is from a Colt M16A2 I got from a machine gun dealer. The top picture shown my old Duckbill grip but I had since replaced that with the proper Colt A2 grip and I also have the correct Marines adjustable issue black cotton sling from CJ Weapons Accessories. |

So my A2 is finished. It is a Coltmaster. Everything forward of the barrel threads is Colt and the recievers and buttstock are Bushmaster. Here is another crappy camera phone picture of it. (it's the one on the left)
