Just finished my first build.  Got a Rock River Arms parts kit and assembled the lower.  Then I ordered a complete upper/barrel assembly and mated them up.  Very tight fit to the lower, but everything was OK until I started playing around with the bolt carrier group and the charging handle.  Took them out, inspected and cleaned them off - still everything OK.

BUT, when I went to put them back in the upper, I pushed the bolt carrier group in too far and then inserted the charging handle. The charging handle tip now resides in the slot in the bolt carrier and both the bolt carrier group and the charging handle are stuck in the upper.  I can't remove either BCG or Handle (by pulling the charging handle to the rear) from the upper receiver.

How badly screwed am I?  Do I need an gunsmith/armorer to fix it or can I fix it myself?

Advice on how to proceed would be appreciated.

If I am understanding you correctly,  you stuck the charging handle in the hole at the back of your BCG

I'm really not following.  Pics would be immensely helpful here I think.

@nvhunter

That is correct.  I stuck the charging handle in the slot at the back of the bolt carrier.

@USMC503

All I have is a phone camera.  I don't think it would provide enough image clarity.  Tomorrow,  I'll try to borrow a good SLR camera and take some pics.

By the way, Semper Fi,  I was in Okinawa 57-58 - Third Marines.  Is Third Mar Div still active?  Been a long time.

3rd MarDiv is still around and kicking lol.  I actually augmented a battalion from Oki, though not grunts (combat engineer myself).

Thanks for the responses.  I got it fixed with the help of a friend.  Seems that the bolt is so new that it just doesn't want to slide easily in the upper receiver.

I've worked it back and forth and it slides a little better now.  I think it just needs to be fired to work out some of the rough edges.  Hopefully that will permanently fix it.

just for clarity, you are putting the charging handle in the upper prior to putting the carrier assy. in, right?
