Hello all, I recently built my second AR into an "SPR" (I feel like that term is getting more cheesy by the minute) and currently have a Burris TAC-30 1-4x on it. Needless to say, that isn't enough for what I want to do with this rifle. My intended purpose is general plinking from 100-300 yds, with the occaisional shot out to 400-600 (I'm lucky enough to live 10 mins from a range that goes to a mile). Here's the kicker though, I enjoy shooting close up stuff as well like shoothouses etc, and there's a NRA highpower match coming up soon that'll be shooting 300, 500 and 600 yds that I'd like to shoot in, maybe not to win but to at least have fun with. I have found a couple options so far:

1) Leupold Mark AR 3-9x40, and buy a chargemaster for my reloading

2) Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 and no chargemaster

3) try to find a good deal on a SWFA SS 3-9x42 and probably no chargemaster

My price range is no more than $450 (I have access to .mil discounts, which is why the vortex is in my price range). My second question is this: Will 9-10 power be enough for what I want to do? If you guys have any other suggestions for scopes, I'm all ears to hear them. Thanks for the help. `

10x is enough to shoot small groups at 100 and bigger man size targets out to 600 imo, but if you want to shoot small groups at 200 I'd go with more magnification.

Out of the scopes you mentioned I'd go with the Vortex.
