I built my first AR last night, but for some reason the takedown pin detent is getting hung up in the takedown pin.  As soon as I open it or close it all the way it will not move.  Any hints or ideas on how I can fix this without buying new parts?

Are you sure you have the pin and spring in the right order?

If the spring is against the take down pin it will hang up in the detents on the take down pin instead of clicking in nicely like it should.

It wont move at all? Are you sure they are installed correctly?
Sometimes, when first put together, the take down pins are a little stiff and need to be oiled and worked open and closed.
When I put a lower together, I oil every moving part and work it to make sure everything functions right. Try opening and closing the pins for a few minutes and see if they smooth up for ya.

Thanks for the tips guys... They are in the correct order and it's not a lack of oil or needs to be worked in issue.  It is stuck soild... The only way to take it apart is to take the spring and pin back out.

Post a picture of the inside of the pins. (the part where the detent rides)
There could be a defect thats not allowing the detent to come back out of the hole.

Try cutting 1-2mm off the detent spring.  I've had some very "robust" springs that would not allow the takedown pins to move unless coerced with a punch and hammer.
