Has a laser installed on it but comes off really easily. Cant find any marking on it. Only markings Are on the Front Sight. The mark is a 3 pointed crown. The Barrel is Marked B MP 5.56 Nato 1/9 H BAR Has a tear drop forward assist. Thanks guys. |

If the Barrel has B MP it is a Bushmaster barrel, but if the upper has no forge ID mark such as a Cerro Forge Keyhole or a Cardinal forge Cardinal's head, it's not a Bushmaster upper. All Bushmaster, Colt, even Olympic have forge ID marks on the upper receiver. I can't tell if that is a forge mark or a smudge in the image. If there is no marking it is a "no-name " upper. The other thing that doesn't jive is it's an A1 upper, and to my knowledge Bushmaster only made A2 uppers and flat-top uppers during the ban. And it's not a M16A1 upper receiver because of the brass deflector bump aft of the ejection port. That only showed up in the M16A2, so it's definitely a commercial mfg upper receiver. I'd say it's a Franken-upper with parts of unkown origin, ecept for the barrel. Still worth having just for the barrel, if it is good shape. $300? don't know about that. |
I have to disagree with you on the forge marking of uppers. I have 6 Bushmaster uppers, five of which are Cerro Forge marked. The 6th is a desert camo carbine ordered direct from Bushmaster new and shipped to my FFL. The upper has no markings, and it was made during the AWB. It is a flat top upper however. |
My Oly upper is not marked & the M16A1 does have a brass deflector. |
Yes, but you must admit it is rare to have no markings on the upper for BMI, and that upper you got was not an A1. Everything together indicates to me, it's a likely a franken upper. I could be mistaken, but I would certainly be wary. I mean when was the last time BMI even sold a rifle with an A1 upper? Late eighties maybe? |
Yes but Oly still produces A1 upper with brass deflectors, on their plinker model. I could be wrong, but there is really no way to know if it is a US forged upper receiver or a made in taiwan special, with no forge markings, no matter who sold it. I generally would not accept a new rifle with no forge markings. I want to know who forged that upper if I am paying retail. Now if it's a used gun, sure, but the price should follow accordingly for a "mystery" upper. Caveat Emptor is all I'm saying. |
| As far as i know, the upper is all original, the only thing that has been added is the laser on it. The guy i got it from ordered it, thinking he could try to learn to shoot righty, but he couldnt, so he got rid of this one and put a lefty upper on it, and sold it to me. |
Bushmaster made a bunch of A1/C7 carbines and uppers in the late 90's. They often paired the C7 upper with an 11.5" or 14.5" Brl and a perm attached muzzle brake. it was one of their lower cost offerings. |
OK, well I wasn't aware BMI put out A1s that late. But is if there is no forge mark, who forged these upper receivers, that would be my question. All the good forges in the US put a forge mark on their output. Really surprising BMI would put out something with a mystery upper receiver like this, if they did. All forgings are not created equal. Very interesting, regardless. |
