I'm running a 12" Bore Buddy upper with a SilencerCo Warlock II silencer. It's on a PSA lower with a Rare Breed FRT15-L3. The upper is equipped with Bore Buddy's FRT trip and weight kit. Currently, it is set up using the Stainless Steel weight housing, with all 4 Stainless Steel weight pins. I have tried using the Bore Buddy buffer tube plug: Bore Buddy Plug. The following sequence of events is what occurs most of the time when I shoot, no matter if I put 5, 10, 20, or 25 rounds in the magazine. Insert loaded magazine into gun Pull charging handle back and release Flip selector to "Auto" Pull trigger- One round fires, then I have a dead trigger, with the hammer down on a live round in the chamber Drop magazine Pull back charging handle- Live round in the chamber does not extract Release charging handle Re insert magazine Pull trigger and the entire magazine quickly fires until bolt lock This is a very puzzling malfunction. Other than this specific type of jam, which happens the same way every time, the gun has never jammed since I got the weight kit right. It's as if I'm doing something wrong in some way that causes that first round, stripped from the magazine by me racking the charging handle and not from the bolt cycling by blowback, to fail to reset the trigger only on that second round. I'm using quality ammo, only CCI Mini Mags or CCI Suppressor 45 grain subsonics. The gun functions perfectly in semi auto mode. " /> " /> " /> " /> " />Thanks guys! |

@Renaissancemann can correct me here, but have you seen this (from Bore Buddy's FRT page)? Pull the trigger VERY lightly. Too hard and you’ll get a dead trigger. The tiny 22lr cartridge is moving your finger out of the way to reset the trigger. Could that be at least part of your issue? With no ammo, can you feel/hear the hammer drop as you hold the trigger back and cycle the action using the charging handle? Also, do you need a new extractor? |

I've been messing around with FRTs of various kinds all summer, and I'm well aware that yanking on the trigger will induce malfunctions. I just realized that I have not dry fire tested this system. I did with the push button Hoffman Super Safety, but I have not with the FRT. I'll try that today, as well as try again with the lightest trigger pull I can manage. |

I have yet to get mine running. I have tried almost everything. I have tried 4 different FRT's, two of them were SS's. It works fine in semi auto, but when in forced reset, it will fire one round, then a dead trigger with a live round in the chamber with a light primer strike. It will do this over and over and over. Switch it back to semi and it runs perfectly. Everyone keeps saying bolt bounce. The only thing I have not tried to tungsten weights, and they have been out of stock for weeks at BB. I just installed a fostech extra power recoil spring and removed the plastic bolt buffer (the one behind the recoil spring) as was recommended by a youtube video. I had one or two 3-4 round bursts, but that was it. Still 99% fire one round then a dead trigger. I had a thread going here for a bit: https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/Who-here-is-using-a-FRT-with-a-22LR-What-is-your-setup-/130-790783/ |

It's clearly not bolt bounce, or it would be happening on random rounds, not exclusively the first one. I am confident I will eventually get this running. |

Quoted: Have you tried locking the bolt open, then inserting the mag and then letting the bolt slam home instead of putting the mag in and racking it? Probably will not do anything, but just thinking out loud. My gun doesn't have a 22 bolt catch yet. I'm putting together an order from Bore Buddy today that will include one. |

The lighter trigger pull appears to have fixed it. I only ran one magazine because I was short on time, but it functioned perfectly. I'll test it more on Monday before updating the OP and title with the positive results. |

Quoted: Is the Quiet Collar known to frustrate reliability? I’ve read a thread where people are having problems with them, but have never messed with one myself. Can’t remember what the issue was. It’s not gonna be nearly as quiet as a bolt action so not really worth pursuing imo. I understand the frustration with these. Finally got one to cycle well and then it broke a firing pin. Swapped in another kit, but it didn’t wanna run at all. Didn’t wanna swap the pin out because I was in a sandy area with high winds. Besides, I had two rifles and two pistols, both center fire with FRT‘s and they all keep getting worse the more I try to improve them. |

Splendid news, folks! It's fixed. I installed a Bore Buddy magazine catch. I now load the gun by locking the bolt open, inserting the magazine, and pressing the catch to drop the bolt. I'm also using the yellow (4 pound) recoil spring. I loaded and fired 14 magazines today, and did not have a SINGLE malfunction like I described in the OP. @Jeeps-And-Guns Have you tried a bolt catch? |

I am using the better mag adapter which allows the use of M&P15 mags. https://www.redi-mag.com/product/better-mag-s-22-rimfire-magazine-adaptor/ It has a small block in it that allows the M&P mag to operate the factory bolt catch. It works fine. It will lock open on a empty mag. What mags are you using? |

Something just occurred to me. I wonder if before, when I charged the gun from the magazine using the charging handle, it was likely muzzle up, just to accommodate how my hand moves. It would be awkward to charge the gun with it pointing muzzle down. The weight behind the bolt may have stayed rearward due to gravity, and queered the recoil cycle of that first round. It's not clipped in place all that strongly. Then when I cleared the jam, it was usually pointing muzzle downward because I'm trying to retain the magazine while clearing out the round, and I don't want a live round going off into the air if a mistake occurs. Then once cleared, I inserted the magazine, and charged it again, but this time the weight followed the bolt forward (downward) and functioned properly. And now, since I'm charging the gun using the bolt release, the muzzle has been pointed downward for safety. I think this merits some testing tomorrow. If I find that the weight isn't always behaving properly, I'll look into ways to fasten it in place. Could be something as simple as hot glue, or maybe it'll have to be soldered. |

Quoted: Mine with the original RB FRT never ran great. I have two recent builds, one with a super safety the other with an Atrius Super Selektor, they both run great. About 1500 in the SS and 300 so far on the Atrius. Borebuddy makes it easy ! What's involved in making the Atrius work? Just a trip? |

I have almost all but given up on this AR22 ever since I got the TX22. That stupid little $250 pistol with a $5 part runs almost perfectly. I have fired 400 rounds through it so far forced reset with 2 maybe 3 failures, most likely ammo related. This has caused the non functional AR to be moved to the very far back burner. |

I won't insult you by asking if you've tried all the things I have. I'm sure it's intensely frustrating. I hope you eventually figure out a configuration that works. |
