OK, I have a new build.  I check the headspace with my .223 guages.  It closes on the go and the no go guage.  Then I check with my mil spec guages.  Both the go and the no go guage will not close.

Barrel is mill spec.

What is the deal??????

I believe there is a very small difference between the two at the neck. Use whatever the barrel is chambered in, and only with those gauges. Try other bolts, if availible. Is the barrel new, or covered under any warranty?

Hope this helps.

If you haven't done so already read the Sticky on Headspace  it has some good info on the difference between .223 and 5.56 chambers.

Also Randall has put together some good info on headspace.

Different gauge manufacturer? I have never gotten similar readings using gauges from different companies. They appear as if they stop at different points or more of the shoulder to me when I compare them. I would think that if it closed on ones No Go it would close on both Go gauges but I have had similar results as you if I use two companies tools.
