I have an H marked hammer, but it's not in a circle. Or is it HI ? I also have a selector like yours with the II, mark on it. The selector came in an SGW/Olympic lower kit from 1984. Back when they were selling FA parts to the public.
I ran the H marked hammer passed Rob and WP and they seemed to think it was a modern vendor. It may have a capital H and 3 dots. Sorry, I've not much wisdom to add.

yeah i've seen bolt catches with the capital H and dots. i think they were reportedly modern contractor parts. |

I've only encountered H marked hammers on rebuilds or as spare parts.
Probably a sub-contractors mark as all the H&R FCG parts on original rifles I have encountered had numbers within a circle (1-4) on the Hammers/Triggers and numbered or blank selectors. Single and Double hash marked components start showing up in 4.5 million serial number range Colt's. So it's "probable" that Triple has marked components are later production Colt. Wpns Man |

Wpns Man cool thanks for chiming in. on the blank selectors, i have some that are like the 1/2 marked ones with the block and half circle o the side but i also have some that are completely smooth. which ones are you referring to? so on the H&R hammers, did they look like willyp's pic? i've seen the numbered triggers but not a numbered hammer. so the the I and II hash marked FCGs are probably later colts after they stopped the inhouse production of the C# marked parts right? |

Smooth
That hammer looks to be single hash marked as opposed to a circled 1. Never seen an H marked hammer in a H&R. Trigger looks H&R though. Yes the I, II and III are later Colt's that start appearing intermixed with earlier numbers inside a C marking, in the SN range stated. Wpns Man |

I've seen circled numbers on hammers and triggers in GM production, same as the bolt catch. It is possible GM and H&R used the same sub-contractor for portions of their production.
Selectors could be either, again based on time of production or a variation in the casting. Trigger and Hammers are probably early to XM era. Early A1 production in the 800,XXX range had started using plain numbers (no circles) on hammer, triggers and selectors by then. Most CE marked components, usually in conjunction with | or || hash marks appear on early A2 production from Colt. If the hammer has the wide disconnector hook it started life as an A2 casting. Other than C marked Colt parts, there is evidence that some manufacturers may have utilized the same contractors for raw castings depending on production dates and SN ranges as identically marked parts routinely show up within each others production. Then there are variations due to the casting molds and dies being replaced. Add to that the fact that repair parts were manufactured for over three decades. It all adds to the confusion. Knowing this, in most cases it is difficult to make a 100% identification of loose parts as they are "Out of context" to their original rifle. Wpns Man |

I thought you were referring to CE marked components not a E within a C.
Probably a sub-contractor for Colt variation. Just make a note of the date of the SN range to try and establish a time frame. Like anything SP1 it could be significantly earlier than your rifle. However, the fact that it is a code within a C "should" tie it to the timeframe Colt started these makings. That Hammer/Trigger look like pre-GM/H&R Colt production. Probably from the '67-68 range. Again, these are loose parts so some of this is a SWAG. Wpns Man |

Wpns Man cool appreciate your thoughts and insights. who knew there were so many nuances in these components |

It was my understanding that the E inside the C was from 1959 to 63-64 on cast front sight bases, hammers, triggers, 601 and first type transitional bolt catches, and dimpled selectors. Then unmarked hammers, triggers, selectors. Then a number inside the C. Also I've seen two 601 hammers with a C S and a M inside a circle. A few photos I've saved. I can't remember but I think they came from olgunner, MS Gun owners http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff160/nosepiece/601bcg3/hammer2_zpsgfphfgdr.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff160/nosepiece/601bcg3/01-03_zpsldnsgbit.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff160/nosepiece/601bcg3/hammer_zpswsicojkk.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff160/nosepiece/601bcg3/pop_wm_2371990_zpsgthhllge.jpg http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff160/nosepiece/601bcg3/4dig-20_zpsfep1zqyt.jpg triggers were marked with the E in a C too? got any pics? never knew that the early triggers were marked too. |
